Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bontrager Velocis Unpadded Cycling Glove

I keep looking to see if a large is in stock at trekbikes - but when I hit large, out of stock online pops up in red. I contacted trek once to see when they'd be in stock again (last fall) and they said they will make more in the summer.

There are other makes of unpadded gloves. After switching to better padded bar wrap I prefer unpadded gloves. Bontrager RXL Thermal was my favorite full finger glove, but it's been discontinued and they never made a short finger version. Too bad, easily the most comfortable and durable thin glove I've ever worn. It's going on five or six years and even with some slide-out, hands-down falls on gravel the gloves are in great shape. Those gloves may outlive me.

I also have Giro Zero CS, which are remarkably durable considering there's hardly anything to them. Just a bit of raveling of one seam in two years along the right forefinger -- I could sew it up if I was really concerned. I bought a pair in hi-vis yellow for $14 at the LBS because nobody wanted that color. Over time the hi-vis yellow wrist faded to white, although the hi-vis yellow Giro logos stayed bright yellow. For the price and performance I don't care.

And some adidas Climacool gloves have minimal padding, no bulky gel pads or anything like that. I bought a pair on a lark at Ross or Marshalls for maybe $5. They're good.
