This is by no means impressive for many, but it feel good to get close to 40 mph - that's my fastest speed with a reliable/accurate device. What's better, I ran out of gears ... if I had a bigger gear, I'd happily gone faster. Maybe I'm shaking off my speed insecurities

The fastest you've seen professional riders go in the TDF, is not the same as "faster than any professional rider can go".
A simple way to go faster is to draft behind a vehicle going faster, though I don't recommend doing it behind a semi-truck, the suction is quite frightening and can be deadly.

I'm not a great descender and I don't like corners since my last crash where I sprained my wrist badly and so very cautious nowadays. I did 81km/h down a hill the other day but that's probably the fastest in some time for me. I prefer going up hills rather than coming down them.

Took an hellacious fall at 27mph. I've been a bit gun shy after that, which is fine as I live in Central Florida and ride all flats.

I live in a hilly part of Northcentral, PA where you can easily reach 40-45mph downhill. A friend of mine crashed 2 weeks ago on a ride and suffered a lot of facial and skull fractures along with a traumatic brain injury. I think in time he will come around, but, it makes you think about speed and injuries. I decided to cap speed at about 25mph

I once hit just above 50mph, but that was twenty years ago. Now I'm too scared to go that fast. Now, at 72, I start hitting the brakes at around 35.

I have no speed limit. I will go as fast as the hill and/or conditions will allow me. One of the hills near my house will get me north of 50mph if I hammer at it.
Local ountain descents are good for the upper-40s with no effort at all. Just holding on for the ride. On a ride with any hill longer than a few thousand feet long, 35-36mph on a daily basis.

I bit it coming down Mt. Rainier several years ago. Lots of soft tissue damage. Ever since then I've been tentative on my way down. I'm in no rush to repeat that experience again.

I've topped 60mph on River Mtn Road before, but I won't go that fast right now. As I'm a bit older, not as indestructable as I used to be...or believed to be.

Been faster on my single, but my most memorable was going about 45mph on a tandem with my second grader on the back with a kid kit. We had a long conversation about "don't tell mom," but of course as soon as we walked in the door......
