1997 Le Tour weight?

Hi -- Does anybody know how much a 1997 Schwinn Le Tour weighs? It's the 21 speed. I can find a lot of spec information at BikePedia but am not seeing the weight. Thank you!

Welcome to BF! Off hand IDNK, but there are catalogs out there you can look at for tech info.

Pics of your machine when you can!

My guess is 25.8 lbs. THat's based on looking at pictures in a Google search for "1997 Schwinn Le Tour"

I had no idea they were making a Le Tour model that late. I've never seen one more current than late 80s.

Thank you. Had not thought about hunting for images. I was surprised by the year too and then one turned up for sale in the area.

yeah it stopped in 89 for a bit and then brought back in 95.

Please keep in mind that my guess is just that - a guess. I based my guess on the bike appearing to be a steel touring/road sport bike with mid level components, which I believe will generally result in a bike somewhere between 25 and 30 lbs. But it may be 23 lbs and it may be 32 lbs. I've never seen one in person so I have no real idea.

Partly, just "bike" curiosity. I'm new to the world of old road bikes and I find the discussion of weight very interesting. I have an old Schwinn, an old Raleigh, and an old Fuji, each one quite distinct from the other, even though none of them approaches top of the line. I did find that Le Tours from 1974-1988 can range from 25 lbs to 32 lbs, and then was surprised to come across this 1997 21 speed version for sale at a really low price. The 21 speed version seems to have had a short life-span of four years, I think, and there's not a lot out there about them. Beyond just curiosity, If the bike I'm looking at was closer to the 25 lb range I'm probably more interested in it than if it's towards the 32 lb range.

Up until 89 the letour got gradually lighter and more sport oriented. My 89 had 700c wheels and clearance for 28s maybe 32s if you held your breath. It is also pretty quick handling. It made a nice 650b conversion but needed dimpling of the chain stays. With true temper tubing it's a great little sport bike.
