I sold my fat bike since I can’t take enough time off skiing to ride it.
So I’m down to 5. But I also maintain my wife’s two - just to be 😊.

I have two cheap, old SS builds; one for mud and one for dry. Polling here indicates consensus. YMMV.

only two.

a commuter/city/kid shuttle and a road bike.

i have my eye on a super light hardtail, and maybe an aethos. but i don't have suitable secure storage for all four, plus our scooter and my daughters' bikes.

You want to pay my divorce attorney?

A better question is. How do you hide your bikes?

I'd stick with one color scheme or you will get: "Honey, when did you get that purple bike?!"

Just two. A Dahon folder and a fitness hybrid that I converted to a 1x drop bar. Both get ridden regularly.

I have two. One is my daily rider, the other is an older mountain bike that I'm fixing up so I have something to ride while I do a long overdue overhaul of my primary bike. If I had more space..I'd probably have more.

Yeah - too many by just about any standard.
Been a regular cyclist from age 35 to today, age 70.
Original to me:
4 roadies w Ergo 10 drivetrains
1 tandem

Then my prior ownership of friction shifting vintage roadies took over. Today there are over a dozen rideable 70s & 80s bikes, with 3 or 4 longer term projects. Good tires coupled with good frames are my ‘thing’.

edit: the sig line is lacking some more recent acquisitions.

I have whittled down to two bikes of my own, the wife's, and my son has a bike. Two road bikes, two "hybrid/city" bikes.

The trick is actually going out and riding....

I own two bikes, both Trek Domanes. One is a 2019 SL 5 and the other is a 2021 SLR 7. The 2019 Domane will eventually be slaved to a Wahoo Kickr Core so my wife and I can each have our own smart trainer.

I have three.
Raleigh Tripper is my main bike...SS and it has a coaster brake, which is a blast.
Raleigh One Way...SS or fixed with flip flop hub. Similar to Tripper, but different.
'97 Specialized Rock Hopper...pretty much stock. Rarely ride it. Hard to get rid of for sentimental reasons.

Rideable-
My daily, and will probably be the ride-with-girlfriend bike, once I get hers together; Schwinn High Sierra.
////
Schwinn Prelude(needs bartape tubes and a longer brake cable housing) for solo rides and getting some speed.
////
Next LaJolla was my stepdads bike before he passed, spare bike for when the High Sierra has a flat, or needs repairs.

Not ridable-
DK bmx frame
/////
GMC Denali frame(to attain what I almost finished with my stolen Genesis Roadtech)
//////
Huffy Cranbrook frame Want to make Klunker
/////
Fuji Finest Trutemper road frame(needs fork) Want to be my serious and fast roadbike... or whatever
//////
Newly aquired Nishiki Olympic Rolling chassis Currently making this a single speed.
////////
Nishiki Prestige frame Stripped all the RX100 group off when the BB siezed, for the Fuji, want it gone, and not gonna make excuses to keep it
//////
Gary Fisher Katai wanted to make superlight street fighter, but second guessing, the alloy frame doesn't seem as light as I remembered it, last I picked it up. The Drifter¹ frame is lighter. Might need go byebye, too.
//////
Diamondback Drifter¹ frame lightwieght alloy, was going to be another ratrod, but want to make it more a fast "board track racer", than slow "beach cruiser".
//////
Trek 800 Sport Single Track frame seatpost fused in frame, want to make it a permanate-never-unattatch tow rig for when I finish this bicycle trailer, but also don't want it.
////
Schwinn Link wanted to convert to ebike, would rather have a disc frame for the speeds I planned on doing, plus its blue. Don't really want it, don't really want to waste money/time building it, but also want to make it a roadster.
////
Schwinn Probe frame Bought to replace the one I broke, nolonger want it.

I think that's all of them. I really want to downsize so I only have the one mtb, one cruiser(I don't plan on keeping the clunker after I build it), bmx, SS, and three roadbikes.

4 and 1/4

My 2021 GT MTB, daughters 24", wife's 7 spd cruiser and a 26" BMX frame(getting repainted and built) and the 1/4 is money used to get son's MTB.
