I'd call this a "winter bike" as around here they use salt, lots of salt so I always need a sacrificial bike. This would however be waay to big for me....

I understand the need for a winter beater but I'd pick something lighter and livelier than one of those Schwinns, and I used to have one so I'm qualified to comment on that.

One of these would only be justified if you were going to try and see who could/would/should come out on top of a no holds barred beating.

It wouldn't be you.

I'd say that this is taller than 66cm. $200 for this seems more than reasonable.

65 x 57 Snel. Frame built by Kessels of Belgium.

The frame is not without its problems, so this may be the last you see of it.

As bought:

Usually sellers seem to think that a tall bike deserves a higher price, nice to see one that doesn't. Not perfect by any means but does have good points in it's favor and a lot less than many

@WGB / Anyone else here, I don't know if the intent of this thread is to also include bikes/frames for sale (that is, in addition to those members who own tall bikes above 64cm, which is at the very least the original intent of the thread, if not the sole intent). Just don't want the thread getting cluttered up with dead links, seller ad copy, and bad seller photos; as this thread could (easily) turn into that. I would think a Super Tall Bikes Found on CL / Ebay would be a good thread to start, even if I do those searches on my own, and semi-frequently. I know The Paceline forum has a thread like that, but somehow still gets entries of 59/60/61cm because people don't know what "very tall" (or words in general) mean anymore.

Must have misunderstood. I know the thread started as showing only members tall bikes but thought it had changed to also include links to sales of very tall bikes though to be honest I didn't look too closely for that change. In my defence, I'd posted some tall bikes in the Craigslist sales thread and received suggestions to cross post here as well. No issues with not posting here as duplicates.
PS I ride a 62 or 63cm frame and once had a 65 inch frame with a stuck seat post I couldn't adjust. I rode that bike just one time around the block. That was enough for me! Guessing I don't fit the definition of a tall bike guy...

I perused the first handful of pages and for sale postings did creep in there and no one did anything about it. This was 6 years ago. No official "we're changing or opening the scope of this thread up" verbiage, people simply posted an ad here and there. I could flood this thread with CL and Ebay listings if I really wanted to, but I believe that would dilute the thread's intent. I would appreciate other Very Tall Bike riders' thoughts on this. As one who rides 65-67cm frames, I appreciate the focus or 'purity' of keeping a thread on track and not changing mid-course, especially as it has steadily gained post count over the years and the original intent kept with nearly the whole time.

Yeah that's always a bit baffling. I am really proportion-sensitive, so even if I can straddle a 27"/68.5cm frame (which I can, with the bar giving the soft tissue a mild handshake), my saddle is going to be pretty low over the top tube. That's cool but it looks like I pulled my pants up way too high or shirt halfway up my face. 66cm is about the proportional limit for me. High enough to allow a normal quill stem to be used (saddle to brake lever drop won't be huge), but low enough to give me a nice fist full of seatpost (or simply visual "breathing room" for the post and saddle). 66cm Cannondales work, except the 3cm of extended seat tube makes the protruding seat post look quite stubby. Not a good look unless, say, the frame color and seat post matched in color and gloss level. Those big Cannondales are also too long for me, so it's a double no-go anyways.

Yeah, its always interesting to read how people 5" shorter than me are riding 63.5-65cm bikes because they like the 'french fit'. Ultimately, most road bikes that are classic level top tube c&v in the large sizes had top tubes that just arent very long, so most are riding a bike that is just hard to stand over without really being much longer for reach than a properly sized bike.

Everyone has unique measurements, so maybe those sizes really do work best. At the same time, the Snel that is being discussed has a 57cm top tube, which is quite compact for a 65cm frame. That same top tube length could easily be on a 58-61cm frame and allow the seatpost to not be slammed nearly as much.
Oh well.

This bike was used as a prop for an "event" (don't ask) in which an average-sized person had to sit on it and pedal, and the person who arranged the props clearly didn't know much about frame sizes.

Anyway, me buying it was a gamble, and while it looks straight, when I stripped it I found a slight bulge on the down tube, indicating a previous front end collision. It is a really nice size, so I am thinking of building it up to see what's what.

My 68.5 Cannondale conversion. The frame cracked around 3 months ago and I used the parts on my other bikes.

I like the size and dimensions as well. Always easier to "grow" a frame than "shrink" it. Too bad about the damage.

You guys shoulda been in shops in the early '80s. We were selling hundreds of 27" (mostly Fuji Gran Tourer and Royale, Puch Pathfinder, and Panasonic Sport Deluxe models) and 28" (Panasonic DX2000). Most of them got whitewalls, chrome shorty fenders and "sponges" (Grab On grips) before they went out and usually got several bungee cords attached and Vise Grips clamped on shortly thereafter. Seats always slammed so the 5'5" owners could try to ride them but usually wound up pushing them around with an arm resting on the seat.

The Schwinn dealer down the street advertised the Continental as "the BIGGEST" and probably sold even more of them.

No kidding.

The front chainring is 28 teeth and I took that pic using the front camera of my smartphone.
