Well the bike is a little older than I am, but it was built around 20 miles or so from where I was born. I’m looking forward to taking it on an age appropriate ride (a metric century) this summer. : )

I know it doesn’t have a chain yet, so the rear derailleur isn’t adjusted - but the new bars are so shiny, I thought I would leave them bare for a few rides. Maybe they will be too slippery. Benotto barend caps slipped on, the vintage silver ribbon was the final choice over several cotton colors that were considered. Probably not the final wheelset, but they got a quick overhaul too.


Harding (Irish) branded Holdsworth Special with new narrow rando bars from SomaFab, new black stem. The new Holdsworth crankset from UK was the primary focus of the rebuild but new bar/stem & modern non-aero levers, rd upgrade and a new saddle (trial) finished off the mods. Waiting for delivery of some new chains for several winter mini-overhauls.

edit. - Need to put the drop-out adjusters back in, no more knobby 33s for this bike.

How was the Bendix hub overhaul? I've done a couple of Sturmey Archer 3-speed hubs, but I've never seen the inside of the Bendix 2 speed.
I'm also working on bikes for riding with the Grandkid around the neighborhood.

The Marin Palisades Trail I found at the curb last year was built with drops but never used. The original Marin Lite knobbies are still on it and there's too much buzz in street riding so I've been planning to swap tires from a bike I plan to give away, Kenda Krisps. Yesterday I found matching alloy wheels with cassette and Kenda Kross smooth-center tires and I put those on the Marin. Big difference! Now to give that bike some use.

The Sheldon Brown site has this resource. Pretty easy actually. A tool is needed to loosen and tighten the locknut. I made one by cutting the required notches in a 3/8 pipe nipple.

New/old bike for my daughter. Canadian made Raleigh Rocky from 92 I believe. A garage queen tank but it's going to fit and she loves a nice paint job and at $75 cdn, a bargoon during Covid.. I hated these bikes back then but this 92 isn't bad.
. I love the cable stop for the wishbone stay(s) and the rest of it is showroom. It's got Weinmann Alesa concave rims, 400lx/exage/rapidfire and an alloy riser bar that I may have to borrow. Birthday present for her on March 2. Sorry for big pics.

I have one of those 'capped' riser stems - still on it's original '86ish Bridgestone city bike with 26"wheels.
(well actually it is at my daughter's house with a child carrier on the back.) but i still do the little maintenance needed.

Finger sanding is no way to live. Time to buy a Scotch Brite wheel and fit it to a cheap motor! I got a washing machine motor at a junkyard for $4, added a $10 grinding arbor, and I use it to run a $15 ebay special used Scotch Brite wheel, but you don't have to be as much of a hillbilly as me. I believe you can even get them for dremels and drills. It'll remove the ano in no time and your fingers will thank you. Even a wire wheel will do it fairly quickly, but the texture it leaves behind isn't great. With the Scotch Brite wheel, you can go straight to polish with a buffing wheel.

But that ano looks thin enough you might get away with lye. That is the fastest and easiest, because you can often go straight to polish after cleaning/rinsing off the residue left behind once you've removed the ano chemically. Doesn't work so well if it's really thick, though. You never know with these bike components, exactly how it's going to go.

What is that grey stuff? I ran into the same thing with a grey Triomphe crank I got off ebay. It was just $50ish, because it was grey. But oven cleaner didn't make a dent in the finish. Is it more like some evil alien powder coat? I'd like to know. Took forever to polish by hand.

Rest the fingers and go at it some more with 80 grit followed by 600 or whatever removes the scratches.

Oven cleaner works fine if you sand the part before applying.
Haven't tried the Scotch Brite wheel yet, will give that a go come Polishing Season (Spring for me, when I can do it outdoors with the buffing wheels)

I plan to start working on this 1990 Rocky Mountain Fusion soon. From what I can tell it has the original frame (20"), fork, stem, and cranks, but that's about it. Someone (maybe the fellow I bought it from) bodged it into a two-speed. The headset is so loose it rattles around inside the headtube and the fork shifts +/- 1" under braking; I hope the headtube isn't ovalized as a result.
The plan is to turn it into a daily driver for my 12 y/o son. He's 5'-1" but growing like a weed, so I hope with the seat slammed and a short stem it will fit him this spring/summer. Other changes should include a 1X9 drivetrain, new headset (hopefully threadless if the size is right), flat bar, new canti-brakes, lighter seat.

I know, its not my bike so its whatever my friend has. I was able to convince him to buy these red Aeffect pedals off me which look nicer.

Just got down disassembling a 1989 Trek 930, single track. Still got to get the old BB out (need the right tool for it,) going to strip the paint off of it and go with a colbalt blue paint job. I might replace the derailleurs, already ordered v-brakes for it. Want to turn it into a poor mans touring bike.

Seems to happen naturally on a steady diet of carbohydrates. His mum is 5'-0" and I'm 6'-3" so he's passed his mum but hasn't caught up to me (YET).

that will definitely a great bike for him to grow into. consider a low profile saddle if he has trouble reaching the pedals. but, maybe you already thought of that
