Open but sealed Dot 5.1 fluid - useable???
I have 2 containers of opened but tightly closed Dot 5.1 fluid. They've been sitting around for 3 years. Can I use them to bleed my brakes (SRAM Guide RSC)? I know Dot 5.1 fluid cost $10 on amazon, but I'd like to use what I have on stock if possible.

only way to know for sure if its safe is to check it for moisture.I wouldn't discard it without knowing.

DOT 5.1 is hygroscopic, if that answers your question. I always buy fresh containers for my cars, it's cheap enough for what it does.

If it wasn't left open for a long time and the seal is tight, I wouldn't worry too much. The amount of moisture in the air that was trapped in when you closed should be minimal. You just want to avoid leaving it open for extended periods in a humid environment.
