Dad is scheduled for surgery if an o.r. becomes available this after noon. Otherwise it will be this weekend. He is to recieve a partial hip replacement. I am assuming the Ball portion of the Ball and socket. Then back to the rehab facility for a while. Would be great to have him at home for the holidays.

I have stock in Zimmer so if you can convince the docs to use a Zimmer product, I’d be grateful.
Seriously, good luck!

I figure I just need to ride it off. Maybe if I ride to LA and back.....
Wishing him the best!
Modern medicine is amazing - a coworker could barely walk. She got so bad she was using a lab cart like a walker, and could still barely move around. Got both knees replaced, and within a couple months was back to full mobility. Yeah, I know - knees not hips. But ideally, it'll be much the same for your Dad!

Things have not gone as planned for feasting and family time.
Younger daughter couldn’t get home from college until late yesterday, so we planned on having our Thanksgiving dinner tonight. However, she got off the plane feeling crappy, and now has a low-grade fever and is coughing heavily. Older daughter doesn’t want to risk her newborn (my grandson) getting sick. My 83yo mom and my sister don’t want to catch anything, either, so plans for family feasting and baby-snuggling have been abandoned. It’s probably the right choice for everyone, but still a bummer.
Meanwhile, I have a turkey soaking in brine. My wife is trying to find someone to donate it to (I’ll even cook it for them). Tonight’s dinner plans are shifting to grilling some nice steaks.

We thought we were going to have to cancel. Oldest kid (who had Covid a month ago) had a fever starting Sunday and a cough / sore throat that wouldn’t kick. Not Covid and not the flu and she improved late Wednesday to be good enough to be around people.

We had our usual small Thanksgiving, just the 4 of us, but I went through some of the pictures I put together for Dad's 100th Birthday and for his memorial service, and there were a bunch of Thanksgiving pics. Mom and Dad, especially Dad, used to go all out for Thanksgiving, and back in the 70s and 80s, when we kids had moved out and were building our own families, if we could, we'd all come back together for that day. Sometimes we'd have grandparents, uncles and aunts, cousins, etc, so we often had as many as 30 people at the house for dinner. We had to borrow folding chairs from church, bring in the picnic tables from the front porch, etc.

Not that long ago, silly. A couple of months ago I had a decent breakfast in El Paso, but then I got to Las Cruces and saw a Mexican restaurant I had to try. They did amazing things with Hatch chilies there. I was so full I couldn't make it back to Phoenix that day, had to stop in Tucson to walk a bit, have a couple of beers and then have a nice 10-hour nap

Yesterday was just another day for me and the three dogs and a cat. The Mrs is in Atlanta.

Hosted 16 at our house. Wife being 8 months pregnant wasn’t a concern for anyone. SMH. Shame if we don’t do it, my in laws are forced to do it. They are 68 years old and work 6 days a week. Anyways, enough of that rant.
It went well, I had a pilot friend come who happened to be overnighting in Newport News, and a friend of the family who didn’t have anyone to spend Thanksgiving with came as well. Toooo much food. Turkey, bacon wrapped stuffed pork, mashed potato’s, roasted potatoes, sweet potatoes, cranberries, stuffing, green beans, salad, rolls, baked brie, massive cheese board.
For dessert we had Pumpkin Cheese cake, Carrot cake, Chocolate Chess Pie, Apple Cranberry Pie, and Pecan Pie.
I had one of each.
