"Mansard Roof" ride on the 1971 Raleigh Sports

Just got back from a short Edward Hopper "Mansard Roof" ride

The house made famous by Edward Hopper

My ride yesterday was unremarkable, rode around our suburban area but the wind was persistently +15mph. And of course, it seemed the entire time I was riding into it. Anyway, I like to take a dirt path around a small lake. I stopped to take a picture of my bike, but a blue heron flew into view and settled into the water about 20 ft ahead of me. I steathily moved up and just watched. After standing still for maybe 2 minutes, the heron started hunting; one leg very slowly raised and moved forward, eased into the water, wait, next leg. It then shot its head and a large part of its body into the water, and came up with a fish. Then it stood there for maybe 90 seconds as the fish squirmed in its beak, finally swallowing the fish. The heron then fluffed up its feathers, spread its wings, and resumed the hunting pose. I really should have used video, but for me - this was quite the sight regardless and I was maybe 8 ft away from it.

Rode the Tucson Loop today, 56 mostly flat miles, in freshening wind which helped on the last leg. A geezer group I meet on Tuesdays and Fridays is talking about riding that again tomorrow. If so, I'll do it again, but sucking a wheel at the back of the pack.
