Ciocc Craigslist Find - looking for a bit more info
I just picked up a Ciocc a few days ago, and wanted to double check a few bits with those of you more experienced with this brand. As far as I know, none of the parts on it are original, as the previous owner built it up with bits that they had in their collection. According to the TSD catalogs online, some of the components could be appropriate for one of the three builds that they had. I want to build it back up more to spec for one of the three versions, but I haven't decided which just yet.

A few questions:
- This catalog is from 85 or 86, correct?
- Anyone know if this frameset appeared any earlier or any later?
- Any recommendations as to who I should get replacements for the damaged SL tubing decal and the completely missing MOCKBA '80 decals from?
- There's no difference between the decals between the three versions, correct?

Why do you think it's a MOCKBA 80? It looks a lot like my '84 San Cristobal which came with Triomphe, AL tubing, and bottle cage bosses on the downtube only.

Could be a few different models
As you can see I have a similar TSD. Frame… if you search my previous post where I am selling this frame you might get some more info that will help you.. I could not ascertain the model.

I was going off of the pictures in this catalog:

The frame appears to be a match for a frame they built up with a variety of different components (SL Competition, SL Triomphe, SL Victory) or sold as a frameset under the name "Tri-Sport Frameset". Those three built bikes all appear to have a MOCKBA 80 marking as a commemoration, but it wasn't a model name. The lack of chrome rules out a number of models. I was under the impression that the San Cristobal always had chrome bits.
Our bikes are definitely siblings! Mine was also bought in Florida. I think it's a case of TSD using one frame being used for different trim levels.

The first LBS I worked at was Orinda Spoke and Pedal. Ciocc was one of the framesets we sold. These were purchased as a frame, built to customer spec. Almost all of them went out the door with Campy Super Record Gruppos, but there was no "standard" build, so saying the parts weren't standard doesn't really mean anything.

Standard or not, I've got some anachronistic bits on that bike that need to be swapped out in any event. Even apart from reenactors refer to as "farb", I'd like it to be a bit less mix and match.

San Cristobal was at various times used for their top-tier frames and their low end frames (like mine, zero chrome). Mine said "Mod San Cristobal" so I'm pretty sure that was the name of the model, and not just a commemoration, although it did commemorate the '77 Worlds in Venezuela, and a lot of the nicer, earlier ones said "77 San Cristobal". I also remember being the only one in the store who knew what MOCKBA meant and how it was pronounced.

They are always the MOCKBA 80 just like every old Bianchi is a Specialissma and every old Peugeot is a PX10

One thing that might help too is the CIOCC decal. My old one was bought in 1986 in Germany. The first C on the decal was multicolored vs yours white. Figuring out what years they were all white might help narrow down what exactly you have.

Ciocc, like several other Italian builders didn't confine themselves to model names it seems. Faggin is another that instantly comes to mind, but I am sure that there are a number of others. Others, were strictly by the model (Bianchi, Colnago, Pinarello, DeRosa, etc...)
The original Mockba Ciocc was road tested in Bicycling magazine and was anthracite colored if I remember correctly. I do not recall seeing the Mockba designation on later frames but I could very well be wrong.

Did you actually bother to look through that TSD catalog I linked to? Nothing is identified as a "MOCKBA 80" model and the decal appears on more than one model using that shared frameset. It seems to be more along the lines of a bike manufacturer throwing WC stripes onto their entire product range.
