No riding today, we had a brief torrential downpour, which was more than the drizzle-to-steady-rain which was forecast for a few hours this afternoon. Frankly, I'm glad I didn't ride, I just wasn't having it today. Lots of wrenching lately. Today I got a set of what appear to be possibly NOS Sunshine QR skewers in the mail, cleaned them up, then affixed the wheels to the Miyata 610 with them. I had a mismatched pair of Campy/Shimano which I've been using for a long time, and I've been trying to get this bike all-Suntour. With the exception of the ancient American Classic hubs, I've succeeded. Just day before yesterday, I got a new-to-me SR Royal post and swapped it for the Shimano XTR post which has been in the Miyata since 2012.
That XTR post brings me to the Breezer.
I have a friend who sold/traded me an early 90s Breezer Lightning (XTR?) which I'm working on fixing up. It takes a 1" steerer tube fork, but I know that's hard to put a date on it. It has a 1995 Judy XC, which has been cared for by the previous owner, as it's got a not-blown damper cartridge and a set of springs inside, instead of the old elastomers. This bike is a USER, but I'm still going to do some sprucing up. That fork, which may or may not be original, is getting a new CNCd brace like the V-brake style on the Spez FSX. I have a set of Magura HS-33 Race Lines which I'm going to stick on this bike then I'll take it riding. Currently it's rolling on a set of Sachs Quarz hubs with a blown out freehub body bearing, so those are going. It's getting a set of NOS XT M730 hubs front and rear which will be laced to Rhyno Lites. Not sure what to do for tires, since this harkens from the days when 2.1 was wide, and 1.95 was just about standard. I may be duty bound to go with a Dart/Smoke combo, but I'd like to find something else that can fit in that rear triangle. I haven't shopped for 26" MTB tires in over a decade, and it looks like most of what is available is over 2" wide. We'll see.
Aside from those bikes, I've been tinkering around with my pair of Raleigh Twenties (does a pair of Raleigh Twenties/Twentys make a single Raleigh Forty? A Twenty Squared?) The Missus really likes hers, so I set it up with a new stem extension, ShockStop stem, riser bar, levers, ESI grips, and all new cables. Funny that she sat on it with the new saddle I got to use to fart around town on it and now it's hers. The saddle is a Brooks Cambium C67 and somehow it's just right for her, even though it's as hard as a rock. They really have the Cambium line locked down just right, I love my C19. I just wish they'd make a C19 with springs, in the spirit of the old Conquest (which I also have on my Univega.)
The only other C&V thing I've been nattering about is my 1972 Mercedes Benz 220D, which I need to get rid of, just to reclaim my garage. Sad times, but she has to go.

Visited an old bicycle parts market today. This particular market is organized twice a year and focuses mainly on pre-war stuff, so there are generally very few race and sports bits. But the ones the sellers do bring along are often very affordable. And it's a nice crowd, so it's never a wasted day.

Best view of the day was in the parking lot, BTW. This is a 1960's Panhard 24 CT. French, quirky and beautiful. I love it:



First thing inside was the one American item. A Columbia, priced at €999:



The place is usually filled with mostly women and horses, rather than old men and rusty bikes and parts:





There were only a handful of racing bikes, but I noticed that two of them had identical frames. This Belgian Diamant, with Campagnolo Gran Sport:



And this Jan de Reus, with Japanese bits. Obviously a repaint with later decals, but I know De Reus did offer more affordable bikes (besides his hand-built stuff) made with Belgian frames, so it could well have come from his shop originally:



Got some nice parts, and as expected they were cheap. For a total investment of €11 I got a 27mm Super Record seat post in very nice condition ...

It was a good day.

Some sun now, so maybe a quick 64km assuming it doesn't start raining again. Sadly tights weather once more.

WAITING since December 17 when I had a bike wreck. Haven't had 1 in almost 50 years. Traveling down the road on my almost new 1991 GT Outpost,yes it has the good stuff on it all Suntour equipment. I was crossing some abandoned RR tracks when the handle bar spun 180 degrees violently enough to dislocated my thumb and tear the ligament on my right hand. The force I was throw sideways on to the ground was enough to tear the ligament In my left elbow. So now I have been collecting parts for my 1972 Favorit,2 60s collegiate sport 5 speeds,60s Rollfst cruiser, 3 Raleighs Persuit,Marathon,Montana among others. Side thought anyone have a Raleigh flickstand with the guides built in 1 bike is short a functional 1. All told 17 bikes to sell locally come the start of bike season. So been a wonderful winter for me.

That sucks, finding a spare could suck even more and you still have to get the broken piece out.

They're brass, so easier to break than most steel bolts, but they don't usually seize in place so extraction hopefully won't be a nightmare. More likely to come out easy than a steel bolt. If you need to drill it down the center, easier to drill.

I got this Suntour Cyclone off of my '78 Raleigh Super Course a few years ago. The "pin" was missing - so I shelved it at the time.
Doing some research I found the needed part in eBay so I gave it a shot for $20 - It fit!
Last night I brought the Cyclone back to life!

I personally cannot overstate how glad I am and how lucky I think we are that Zefal straps are still in play.

I need to find the cheap ones again and restock several, maybe 10 or a dozen, think I'm down to 1 or 3.
