Maybe expensive helmets. There's a huge variance in price on helmets from like $10 to $350 and more and the expensive ones have not proven to be any safer. They may be lighter or more aerodynamic or stylish, but it seems like there is just a lot of margin on the high end for what is just a EPS and polycarbonate sandwich. I do have $150 helmets for my wife and I. I'm probably a sucker.
For the most part, bicyclists have it made. If you really want to get soaked, get into boats. Seriously. I reveled in cycling when I first got into it because of how utterly cheap even the "good stuff" is. Used and vintage items make top-end stuff even more affordable, which isn't the case in many other avocations.

BTW, those are bottles with some heavy duty insulation. If I was riding in 100 degrees heat, it might be worth it to me. You have no experience with this, but water in regular bottles gets pretty hot on a long ride.

This is why I dislike the thread topic so much--value is subjective so long as the product actually does what it's supposed to. Something that is dysfunctional is objectively a waste of money. But who the hell cares whether or not I or anyone else on this thread thinks you did or didn't waste money on those bottles? You like them and they've lasted for years.

I would totally pay big bucks for a water bottle that kept my water cold in the summer.
I have a Camelbak Podium Ice and a Polar Insulated and they both suck.
Even if I fill them and freeze them overnight, they are luke warm by mile 40.

I have a Podium insulated bottle and if the temperature is in the upper 80s or higher, the water is warm by about 90 minutes. I really don't start getting thirsty until about 30 miles into a ride, so the insulation is really of no use.
