Cino 2023 July 22-23

Email just received!

Hello Cino Riders!

We hope this finds you well and looking forward to the longer days of spring. We still have a fair bit of snow here in the Flathead, but the grass and dirt are beginning to emerge from their winter cover. And, evidently, so are the bears...

The Kalispell Montessori planning team has been hard at work getting things in order for this year's Cino. A lot will remain the same with a few, hopefully good, changes in store (signs, signs, and more BIG signs to name a few).

If you are wanting to join us this year for a spectacular ride with amazing vintage bikes, fine wine, delicious food, and fabulous company, please save the weekend of July 22-23.

We should have registration up in the next week or so - please look for another email on that front. In the meantime, you can check out our webpage, make a reservation in Hot Springs, or simply ponder how you might trick out yet another vintage bike.

More soon and happy pedaling!
Team Cino

note: I'm sure someone (me!) will update this as soon as registration is up, as this email only went out to previous participants.

Cino is a go .

Now for the 2 hard parts 1) telling my wife I will be gone 8 or 9 day (drive from California, Cino, drive to Chinook Mt and see Dad, drive back to california, stopping in helena and bozeman to see brothers or vice versa) and the easier 2) get in shape so I don't DNF happy to be last

here is video from the email

I was just this very afternoon thinking of calling my sister this evening. Wanted to know whether she could either stay with my mom a few days in AZ, or host mom at her place in TX "sometime in July, so I can ride bikes on crappy gravel roads with a buncha like-minded lunatics in Montana for two days".

I get home from running some errands, check BF, and boom!

I now have solid dates to work with! Thanks, Mark! 90% sure I'll be doing Cino 2023 - fingers crossed...

...and it worked!

My sister can host my mom on those dates, plus a couple before/after for travel. Mark: if you get another Air BNB, I'd like to request a room in advance. Or a closet - or even a bathtub

I've suffered through two of them - but didn't get an email.

Guess I'm the cycling equivalent of chopped liver

But my mom loves me

Make you a deal right now, Jim: you last through Day 1, and I'll volunteer my services wherever I'm needed on Day 2

Serious talk. Good luck on pumping up the fitness level!

Now I'm really upset. Last year the theme was vintage mountain bikes. I didn't have one so I rode my Cinelli. After the ride I procured myself a nice chrome vintage MTB for the sole purpose of riding it in the next year's Cino. Now, I look at the Cino announcement and the theme of this year is randonneurs, with no mention of MTBs. Of course, I don't have a rando bike (whatever the heck that is). Is this the way it's going to be from now on...always one year behind the curve?

Cinelli SC will always trump any kind of theme bike!

This might be the year I get to Cino! Is there an active website now? Dave’s cinorider site just has info from last year. I’ll keep an eye out but if someone will post here when active that will be helpful.

Dang, doesn’t look like I can make it this year. I need to be in NH that weekend. Maybe I should console myself by building up a vintage rando bike.

I’m not about to talk you out of n+1 but your International would be a great Randoneuse.

Sure you do. Your Raleigh you rode on our 2021 TdMIL has a front rack and proper handlebar bag. If someone asks about the trail, just mumble something about "somewhere in the mid-30's and they'll nod approvingly.

You guys are really messing with me man! I go to the trouble of buying a vintage MTB specifically to ride Cino, and now you're trying to convince me that I should ditch that idea and ride my "rando" Raleigh!? My brain is going to explode with indecision.

I am with Daverster on this - I found a vintage MTB specifically for the occasion. Does this mean one cannot use an MTB or is the theme just a suggestion to get into the spirit?

If there was an 'Unlike' button, I'd have jabbed it at least 10 times.

You'll be missed, Neal - and we'll probably have rain - on both days...

I see this:
"...your chosen bike should, ideally, have at least three of the following characteristics: pre-1987, steel frame, lugged, friction shifting (down tube levers!), old-style clip pedals and straps, single speed or fixed gear (only for the truly hard core), or tubular tires."
Easy to get into the spirit.

All you need to know about those rules is that I was put in charge of authenticating last year, and I’m easily distracted—and bribed.

Show up with a bicycle, you can ride. no problem with the vintage MTB. The theme is a suggestion.
