I thought the pyramids were either:

in Egypt (well,… the most famous ones)
or
illegal marketing/financial schemes?!?

But what do I know!

If you have a chain tool you might be able to connect the chain with it but it will be shorter, unless you have some links lying around. You're running 5 speed?

I'm not dead. Will be back soon. I have a grandson who was born in one of the 4 Regional Neonatal ICU's in the US and keeps wanting to return to the ER several years later. Life is starting to return closer to normal. It will be normal for me to "drop out" for a couple weeks or so at a time.

Quick question.
Every morning I check Craigs list to see if anything looks interesting. There is a Trek 1000 for 299.00.

Comments? Thanks

If it's the right size for you and everything works perfectly. And you are very good at DIY bike maintenance.

It's an old bike. If one of the components needs replacing, then you might have to replace several components and that might quickly exceed the the asking price. Even buying your own parts online for cheap and doing your own DIY to install them.

As for is it worth the $299? Not to me. But for 300 bucks you can probably find out if it's right for you and then just consider that money toward your cycling experience and education. Then when you know better what bike you want throw it away or give it away and get another better suited for what you want to do with it.

But who knows, maybe this will be the bike that you are in perfect harmony with. <grin>

That Trek won't give you any better gearing than you have now. In fact, worse if you're looking for lower gear inches.
