Wobbling rear sprocket

Hi guys, I have a specialized langster and recently noticed a periodic whirring/rubbing noise when I pedal (only sometimes). When I am not pedalling there is no noise at all.

On closer inspection I noticed the sprocket on the rear wheel ever so slightly wobble from side to side. Is this normal? Could the noise be caused by a poorly tensioned chain?

happy to post video if needed.

Too much or too little chain tension can definitely cause noise. Is this a freewheel or fixed cog? A video might help determine what "ever so slight wobble" looks like and offer clues to the cause of the noise.
