Garmin Varia 510 battery replacement?
The battery on my Varia has evidently gone kaput. Yesterday on a ride, I kept seeing the "Radar Disconnected" notice on my 1030+. Shortly after, it would reconnect, indicate that a vehicle was approaching (there was no vehicle) and then disconnect again. This repeated several times. My riding partner told me the tail light was out. We stopped, and I checked the battery level. Just about dead, and this after less than an hour from a full charge the night before.
Does Garmin have a repair center that could replace the battery? I've seen the batteries listed online for around $15, but it looks like trying a DIY risks destroying the case, and definitely compromises the water resistance of the unit.

Call Garmin Support and ask them about it. If they don't have any suggestions you don't think will help, then ask them if there is a flat rate repair for it.
Usually that is very minimal charge and usually you get a refurbished unit instead of your actual unit back.
Is this thing old enough to be out of warranty? If in warranty you should get the refurb'd unit free.

I'll contact Garmin and see if they can offer anything. In the meantime, I have a new Varia RVR315 being delivered today. I have two other tail lights on the bike (I did mention a car hit me from behind previously, didn't I?) so I really don't need the model with the light.

Is the car hitting your from behind material? It sort of shows what Varia really can't do, tell you if you are about to be hit as opposed to about to be missed.
Glad you seem to be okay though.
If you are considering the non-lighted version of the Varia, then realize it has way much shorter battery life. I have had my RVR315 run out of battery a few times. Can't be certain it was fully charged before riding on those trips though.
