Vintage Mercier Grand Prix Des Nations 1963
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone knows what the rough value of a Mercier Grand Prix des Nations 1963 racing bike would be? It's in great condition, with mainly original parts (i think) ... a Le Simplex rear derailleur, Nervar crankset, Huret papillion nuts etc. I can't attach photos as I am new to the forum, but have made an album on my profile and happy to send more photos over if anyone is interested in taking a look.

That's an awesome bike. Where are you located? That matters in terms of value. US values tend to be lower than in Europe or Canada; bikes tend to be worth more in large cities. It's all about the market for your bike.
That said, this is a classic. It's old ('63 is pretty old), in very decent shape, and looks to be all original. These factors add considerably to the value. You'll likely have to sell it on the Bay though to get full value for it. I'm guessing $300ish for a local sale; more on eBay.

the Grand Prix Des Nations 1963 transfer is a reference to a Mercier victory and is not a model name
following the victory they placed this transfer on all/many models for several years
bicycle will be slightly later than this date

I would consider this more of a commuter light touring bike not rice. Very nice bike for what it is should be worth at least $300 US. Interested to know were the bike is located doesn't look to be a model sold in the US this one is set up with a 5 speed and Euro style swept back bars most of the US models similar to this from Mecier and other French builders sold in the US had drop bars and 10 speed drivetrain.

IN the UK it would likely be 300-400 pounds there prices are quit a bit up for anything with wheels right now. Probably wouldn't make since to have shipped out of the UK right now value wise.

While this is true, I notice that rear, drive side dropout has the intregral bracket for the direct mounting of a derailleur in front of the axle slot, such as a Cyclo Standard or Simplex Rigidex. This derailleur style had it last gasps in the very early 1960s and I'm surprised to even see this dropout on a 1964 model (the Grand Prix des Nations was typically held in September, after the World Championships, so any bicycle with a decal celebrating Poulidor's 1963 victory, should be no earlier than a 1964 model). Both Huret and Simplex had discontinued this derailleur style by this time and Cyclo had gone out of business in 1962, so I can only assume that Mercier was using up some excess stock and that the probabilty of it being even later than 1964 would be negligible.

Musing on Mercier....
Have you heard of Eileen Sheridan? An English Lady that still holds time trials records she set in the 1950's.
She started her bicycle riding on a Mercier even though she was from, and lived in England.
It is rumored that some of the bikes that she set records on for Hercules were actually Mercier bikes re-done to look like Hercules because she was so used to the geometry and sizing of her old Mercier.
She's still alive and you should check out the vid "Come on Eileen" on the internet. I think I saw it on *****o (sp?) or something like that.
