The original closeup you posted was of the rear aluminum rim, so I was 100% right.
The Araya rim would be original on your bike

If you were anywhere near Peoria IL I'd give you an aluminum wheel in 27".

It really doesn't matter anyway.
I will eventually find a matching set of 27" rims. I guess I'm funny that way in that I don't like having a mismatched wheelset....
Depending on if my brakes will take a 700C wheel I may convert it.

Good to see enthusiasm for the lowly Grand Prix. I just picked up this circa '74 model in great shape. Originally looked at for parts, it's too nice to break up. All it needs is a replacement for the broken plastique Simplex FD, which I have. If it were a few years newer like yours, and in my size, I'd keep it, but I plan to take the rack and saddle
, and pass it on to a taller GP enthusiast.

I just replaced a cracked front Simplex on my 72 Raleigh SC. Before I installed the new on, I used a 1" diameter drum sanding sleeve to remove just enough of the plastic so that the derailleur body does not need to be forced to fit the seat tube.

My Dawes Galaxy came equipped with the plastique Simplex deraiileur set. I upgraded them, so i had a useable FD to pop onto the GP. I took the Pletscher rack, but left the Wrights saddle, which looks well-broken in. I figured it'd be a good selling point.

I've seen a couple of white Grand Prix's with the cheaper stamped fork crown such as the one in the previous post, they were both Made In Holland. The same cheap stamped fork crown was used on the lower priced models such as the Record, Sprite, etc.
The OP's blue GP also has a stamped fork crown
Most Grand Prix's have the nicer forged "Vagner" crowns
Wagner fork crowns

All Raleigh's frames made in the 70's should be checked for alignment. Here's a Grand Prix I restored a few years ago, the frame needed some tweaking to get it in shape...

Well, It rides nice and smooth. I've changed the pedals to flats and wrapped the bars.
I'll leave as is for now unless upgrade parts pop up for cheap. I'm into this bike for under $80.

Found a 1976 Grand Prix a few months ago and totally rebuilt. Almost all original components except; tires, tubes, cables/housings, chain (couldn't find right size replacement rivet to reuse original), handlebar tape and pedal straps. Replaced everything as close to what came on bike as possible.
