Rare enough that I regret selling mine. The early Columbus framed Treks are not common at all. I've only seen a handful, with most being on Ebay. I bought the only I've seen in person.

in the late '70s, we would build them in batches of 10. Everything else was built in bigger batches. Like the 300's, which were often built in batches of 50

To clarify and expand on @The Golden Boy 's response/question, Trek used the 930 model designation for two distinctly different bikes. The first was a lugged road bike made with Columbus tubing in late-78, '79 and '80. The second was a Tig-welded mountain bike made from 1990 through '99, according to the Vintage Trek website.

It's interesting that I see more 700s than 500s and more 500s than 300s. I guess people took care of the more expensive bikes, but the less expensive bikes were regarded as a little more... disposable.

I need to find out where your trash is! I just tuned up a 930 MTB for a friend. Seemed to be a nicer bike with better components than the more typical 800's/820's/830's I've trash-picked around these parts.

Glad to hear it's getting the use it deserves. And ditto on the fit. That thing was as comfortable at mile 30 or 40 as it was at mile 1.

If you feel like counting, you can check out the serial numbers here: Vintage Trek Bicycle Frame Serial Numbers late 1980 to 1981
If you look at '80/'81 years you can get a decent idea of how many 950 frames were made in a year's time. That's not exactly what you're looking for, of course, but will give a general idea of how rare the high end Columbus frames are.
