Mini-Ute

For heavy loads I have my new trailer. But 4 out of 5 errand runs are a quick run to the post office to send off shortened cranks and maybe get a few groceries on the way back.

There is a little area inside my Post Office vestibule that isn't quite big enough for a conventional bike. But I could bring a smaller bike inside instead of locking it up. And I have a nicely upgraded Raleigh Twenty that had been sadly underutilized since we got our Dahons.

With the addition of a milk crate on the back and a Wald basket on the front I have decent capacity with the load carried low. And a low step-over height which is great for my creaky old joints. The Wald basket is much nicer than I expected, quite solid.

I need my bars well above the basket, so I added a 2nd Aheadset type stem to the 7/8" Chrome-moly BMX seatpost that functions as the upright for my stem setup. A piece of 1" alloy tube gives me a mounting place for the basket, a water bottle cage (usually a problem with "Twenties") and a headlight mount. Since the upper mounts of the basket angle down instead of forward, I was able to support the bottom from the fork crown instead of the axle, there being no front eyelets.

I like this bike. Did you post it in the Folding forums? Did you post details about the build anywhere?

Years ago, it's had a few upgrades since.

Have you checked out this site?
https://raleightwenty.webs.com/
It would be cool if someone made a front truck fork with a smaller wheel 16" and a cargo platform.

Good Idea, hire a framebuilder.. and say "make it so".
