Dat's cool! Sorry watched the video with no sound so excuse me if they covered it in the video but what happens if there is a section of metal that is rusted through? Does it burn all the way through?

no, it takes paint right off, as you see in the later segment with the car's hood. I also watched with no (French?) sound so will have to check it again later and see if more is explained...like if there's heat or chance of combustion (like UNDER THE HOOD??!!). I'm sure the cost is reasonable, too

If I had to guess, it would be that the metal gets hot enough to break the bond between the oxygen and iron (along with anything in its way), driving off the oxygen, and therefore the rust. I have no idea if this makes any sense, though.
At a former employer, they had a spare semiconductor manufacturing facility (which is another interesting story), and their attempt to build MIL-SPEC microprocessors didn't pan out well. No problem... they just moved along to try to build solid state lasers. They did build some, and then started to work on ways to sell the danged things. One idea was to use the focused laser beam to remove paint by heating it. This was over 20 years ago, and they spent a lot of money messing around with lasers without much to show for it.
Nice to see that someone has not only come up with a way to remove paint, but also the underlying rust! For the poor folks who have been painting rusty Navy ships, I'm sure that this could be an improvement. I'm just not sure how safe it is. Can't be too much more dangerous than working on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier, though....

I'll believe them when they say that the brief pulses of light cause the dirt and oxidation to heat up and get blown off of the metal substrate. No idea why human flesh wouldn't do the same thing... and I noticed that P-Laser's info doesn't make the claim that it won't harm flesh.
To make a wild guess.. perhaps that the wavelength of the light is one that isn't absorbed (much) by flesh?
Or maybe the pulses are short enough that the average power is low enough to not be harmful... combined with the assumption that flesh has enough thermal mass to not explode when hit with a brief pulse?
There must be a physics PhD out there in the audience who has the answer, right??

This thing looks amazing, much better then sand blasting... But the costs are kinda yikes! I'm not sure if you could make it pay for itself if you ran a business and had it running 24/7.

That is amazing! Why use an eraser when you can whip out your kilowatt laser?? 
It did make me think of another application: high speed (or bulk) tattoo removal!! The sounds and smells would be horrible, I would think. The top layer of skin would be exploded off, so things might be a bit raw afterwards... ewww.
