Have NOS brake hoods - Want to reproduce for the community
So I've got a couple of bikes with brake levers that require particularly difficult to find brake hoods. A 3Rensho with Shimano Dura Ace AX 7300, and a currently under construction 3Rensho that will be built up with Suntour Superbe Pro, using the aero brake levers.
I've finally sourced NOS pairs of both the Dura Ace AX and Superbe Pro hoods, at great expense I might add, and would like to find someone who can produce high quality versions of these.
I would be willing to put forth the initial capital to get the ball rolling. I just need leads to a person or company with the capabilities to get these reproduced.

In case David isn't interested, you could ask Jordi at Reciclone if he wished to do them.
Or you could buy the moulding clay, make up a mould box, buy and mix the silicone in the two stages to make the mould, but use a vacuum tank to remove trapped air, then mix the urethane, also using the vacuum tank, then cast, then into a pressure tank, also to minimise bubbles. Then wait for it to cure. And cast the second hood.
And have the colours available to cater for all tastes, and have them ready for posting immediately.
All when you'd rather be riding.
I have made a mould to cast some Shockstop handlebar plugs for my bikes. I may add the Dunlop versions as well. Then I need to try the GB Superhood half hood that has been too long an outstanding project. And I might also do some GB Superhood full hoods. All of these (but one hood on a loan) are from NOS items I have bought and paid for the international postage.
As I live outside of the USA (and why I spell mould with the 'u'), nobody from this forum would be interested in these as they would have to pay the overseas postage.

Fellow name or Robbie Fellows was in the "serious hobby" category: making mainly Campagnolo re-pops and sold mainly through the Classic Rendezvous list to those members. I have not seen him offering these , lately, so guess he's no longer making them, but if you can't go the "iab" route you might look him up.

No connection or affiliation here but I've used them for 3D printing in the past.
One (reasonably) lowcost approach might be a 3D printed mold with parts in silicone.

do they exhibit the blue hotstamp?
are they replicas of the early dark translucent type material or of the later milky opaque type?
change in appearance of material, and disappearance of blue hotstamp, came in 1977.
IIRC the originals were done by Ambrosiana Gomma srl.

I know this is a couple years down the road but did you have any luck? I am looking into having a colleague's son 3-D print a pair for me if I can get my current hoods off without mangling them too badly. He wants to do it just to see if he can. Any advice on removing hoods or 3-D printing them is welcome.

If you are looking for a supplier look to the AME company. They manufacture grips for motorcycles and were the most popular company for the BMX riders in the 70's. They make golf grips and other projects, but they are a bit pricey if you are not going to buy in bulk. My last quote from them came in at $3500 for a run of 1000 pieces.

As someone posted above, my tutorial spells out every step to make a mold. For costs, figure $200 for the silicone to make the mold (you will have plenty leftover to make other molds if you want), Another $150 for the casting urethane and colorant. Probably enough for a hundred sets of hoods. The vacuum pump, a good one, probably close to $600. A good balance, $50. Miscellaneous supplies (post, tubing, mixing trays/cups, syringes, etc) figure another $100.
Plan on at least 8 hours to make the mold. If you never made one before, 12 hours is probably more correct. And I'm guessing the first 2 you try will fail, third time's a charm, so 30 hours total. An hour to pour 2 sets of hoods. My best guess, you will sell 20 sets @ $25/each when demand tanks, so 10 hours total.
My calculation, $1000 and 40 hours to net you $500. I can't see why no one jumped at the opportunity.
Plan on at least 8 hours to make the mold. If you never made one before, 12 hours is probably more correct. And I'm guessing the first 2 you try will fail, third time's a charm, so 30 hours total. The printed hood will tear, the soft durometer materials have no strength. You will throw away $50.

Any progress? I've a new vested interest... today found a 1981ish full Dura Ace AX bike (never bought or ridden) from a freshly closed bike shop originally in Long Island, N.Y. But the hoods are sun dried toasted!
I've had stuff repro'd before, so I get the problems w/ small run equipment. Please consider me in for two pair of the light blue ones.
