GT I-Drive 3.0
I'm slowly getting back into mountain biking after a 20+ year hiatus. I currently ride a GT Avalanche hardtail from around 2010ish (26" with rim brakes) and I'm looking to get a FS GT I-Drive 3.0 that's still running 26" tires but has been upgraded to mech disc brakes. I know everyone runs 29ers these days but that's not in the budget and I love GT bikes and have had at least one since 1995. I'm only going FS because my back isn't doing too well with the constant jarring during longer rides. I'm hoping a FS with help with that.
The question here is, I don't know much about the I-Drive system that GT used. There's only a few reviews and most are from the earlier 2000's. I usually do all my own work so am I going to need special tools to work on the bottom bracket? Are there any common failure points to the I-Drive? Any feedback from current owners is appreciated!
