Correct and it even more complex than that. Garmin uses Ant+ and Shimano tweaks it for their drivetrains. The same time that SRAM bought Karoo, Garmin was bringing out their flagship 1040. So, it’s assumed/rumored that Garmin and Shimano shared in forcing Karoo to drop Di2 connectivity.

Don’t have a clue but I do know the K2 was cutting drastically in to sales of the 1030. That’s why it’s rumored that Garmin and Shimano were in cahoots. It was a perfect storm:

SRAm buys Karoo
Garmin 1040 is being released
Garmin uses Ant+ and Shimano proprietarizes it for thrown use
Karoo is forced to remove Shimano’s private Ant+
Shimano AND Garmin chortle and sneer maliciously

For the record, I much prefer the K2.

I like the idea of the K2, but I am not committed to shimano or sram, and most of my other products are all garmin. When thinking about the next bike, specifically an all road/ gravel/ cycle cross I have been looking for Sram groupsets. Mainly because I would like to be able to throw my madone road wheels on it without having to change anything.

By the way, many K2 users have never updated their unit since Shimano asked/ demanded Karoo remove their private connectivity. Anyone who hasn't updated their K2 still has all of the Di2 functions that they had before.

Sadly, K2 updates every two weeks and is extremely responsive to their users. If a couple people ask for a feature and they can make it happen, they will. It's really cool that they listen to their users. Those that refuse to update are missing out on features that are being added constantly.

I went with SRAM this time (I've had eTap before) for the simplicity of the system. Only one lever per shifter is nice in the winter with heavy gloves on. The only real downside is the short charge life. One has to be very vigilant or carry a spare like I do.

I may have mentioned this, one of my cycling friends is a software guy for them and he says they really try hard to stay on top of things. He is the one who had to go to Copenhagen for the start of the TDF to ensure the computers interfaced properly with the PM used by Froome’s team.

First time to break out the gillet vest this fall. I probably didn't need it, since I only wore it the first 12 miles, but it did keep me comfy riding along the bottom of the canyon, where it's usually significantly cooler along the creek than anywhere else on my ride. Since I took off Thursday and Friday, and don't generally ride Saturday, I did 67 miles. I had signed up for a "Grand Fondo Challenge" on Strava and hadn't done 100K yet this month. The road was covered with cyclists wearing numbers. Their route included a lot of my route, but not the little detours I take on back roads, so I passed and repassed a number of riders, including woman who would appeal to both Sir Mix-A-Lot and me. I don't even know if any of them noticed me passing them repeatedly. Nobody said, "There's that old fat bastard on the Litespeed again!"

The ride was going really well, and I was nearing the turnaround point in Cupertino, when, in a patch of dappled sunlight, I hit God's Own Rock, a sharp edged little monster the size of a kid's fist. *WHAM!!* and sure enough, the rear tire went flat. Snake bit. Luckily, I have a full size frame pump on the Litespeed, so I was able to pump the spare tube up to full pressure without wearing out my biceps.

Then, after I turned around, I discovered why the ride had seemed so fast - a moderate tailwind all the way South. So, the return trip was into the wind, which wasn't horrible, but did reduce speed while increasing effort.

And just now, writing this up, I got a MONSTER hamstring cramp in my left leg. THAT was a whole lot of no fun!

I haven't a clue. I refuse to update my Sram components. To risky after I lost my front Derailluer to memory corruption. From what I read battery life is available for the wahoo with the firmware update. I'm good without it.

I did a short 20 ish ride on Contador today. I flipped the stem before I left as an experiment. It wasn't bad. No numbness. Some pain. But not to shabby. I just can't stand the way it looks. But it's better than not riding.

You would likely be ok since you purchased from a reputable vendor. I bought mine on Ebay which is nein good! No warranty for me.

speaking of updates that F stuff up. Updated my iphone last week, and now my apple watch is useless. Won’t work, won’t update, won’t pair. Wtf. You would think these tech companies would check **** before they release it.

You maybe right, but I know of two other bikes bought around the same time and from the same store. Both have had atleast one derailer replaced due to the app. Yea it was covered with warranty, but who wants to go through that.

I rode into town for a new combination square this morning, and did a little off roading to extend it some, I would feel so much better if I even rode five miles every day. The caffeine awakens the head but not the body.
