Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

This morning, Mrs. GJ was watching the news and they showed the snowfall in Buffalo. "You win!" she said. Another bullet dodged.

The Tour de Tucson was today and there were supposed to be 7,500 riders and it’s a traffic controlled course for 100 miles. My wife and I checked on riding it when we got here but our late entry fee was going to be $300 apiece.

Because of all the closed roads, we loaded up our bikes and headed south to Amado Junction out of the way of all the road closures. Had a good 46 mile ride to Aricava, AZ.

Ick. Clean that all off so you can see what you're looking at. Threads look like they're probably fine, but I could see how you'd have problems seating/locking in.

Thanks Whyfi, cleaned it. Had to use a knife in the threads, gunk was cemented in there. Relubed it, put it back together. Dialed the indexing in and it almost shifts as good as new. A new hanger would probably help, but it’s not longer moving. Thanks for the help.

Memorial ride and rally organized by the widower of a woman who was crushed in a ridiculous “bike lane” by a truck, a few blocks from where I live, this summer. He raised $300,000 and got a bunch of local orgs and Trek on board to lobby for cyclist and ped safety. Mayor Pete didn’t show, but he sent an undersecretary and the local congressman was there. One of the lady’s young kids spoke too. Very emotional.

Very slow, cold ride down town, but amazing to be with that many riders. Went with about 20 friends.

I don't even SEE any threads left in the hanger.

Now that I have the cervelo some what worked out, I’ll ride it tomorrow. Was doing a quick inspection and noticed this in my front wheel. It’s only on one side, but that looks like it was on purpose. Rear wheel doesn’t have one. Never noticed it before but I havnt really looked either.

I have one bag on my bike and my wife has one on hers. I found a couple/few bags when cleaning some stuff out and threw one on the bike that gets the least action. So there’s really only 2 tubes that really need to be checked.

Yeah, the hanger is fastened by an external cone/nut. The only role of the frame in this is a hex indent that the hanger seats in to. In the first pic, you can see the gap between the hanger and the stays - that should be flush and seated cleanly, but all that road grime was probably preventing it. The wrench that monkeyed with it should be fired for not taking it apart and cleaning it, rather than just trying to crank it down.

For reference, this is what the hanger looks like when it's clean -

wut. It's simple, easily replaceable, doesn't rely on threads in CF, and it's effective... if it's not grimy.
