Michelin has been working on an airless tire for cars. Maybe on day bikes. Perfect for crashpilot.

I keep telling my daughter to stop growing. She says”Daddy, I have to grow up so I can have bubble gum”.
I have since banned bubble gum from my house.

About 22 years ago I was off the bike for 3 weeks on doctor's orders. It seemed like it would be an eternity but it wasn't that bad. I did some hiking on some steep trails and didn't lose too much. That was the last time I had been off the bike more than 5 days. Not sure what that means.
The greatest loss of fitness I have experienced was after I turned 62, or so, and the workload increased to the point where I didn't ride during the week and I was always exhausted on Saturday. Much worse than a few weeks off.

There are two ways going about it. I think that the single entry point method is more popular right now - I mean, one cut sounds better than two - whereas two entry points was the way to do it for a long time. When I spoke with my snip-snip specialist, who's also a doctor for a couple of the pro sportball teams up here, he swayed me to the old-school two-incision process.
First, the single-incision location is, um, to the rear, and more problematic for cyclists sitting on small, firm saddle. I believe that there's also more rooting around because the incision location is midpoint, thus further away from each tube. The two-incision locations are to the front, however, and the tubes are easier to access, so that's what I went with. I'm not sure of my exact procedure date, but looking at my training log, I see that I only had 12 day gap off of the bike.
YMMV.
