Octalink just describes the BB spindle and how it and the crank fit together. It was the next step after square taper spindles, but was superceded by the current hollow spindle that's an integral part of the drive side crank, then the NDS crank fits over the splined end of the spindle, you use a special tool to push the NDS crank in to set the bearing preload, and then there are two pinch bolts on the spindle end of the NDS crank you need to torque down, which holds the whole thing together.

My bike shop mechanic just told me that’s what I need, I sent him the one you mentioned and he said no. However, I don’t think he understands what I am trying to do, and a quick search shows that a bike with english threads and r7000 equals the one you mentioned.

I think I’m buying a tundra next year. Best price for what I can get. I hate dodge but that TRX wins in my opinion, but I am trying to keep the cost under 50k.

Dumb question number 3: This clamp that the front derailer is attached to, is this considered Braze on? could I fit the new front derailer onto it, or do I need to order the band on.

Not braze on. Clamp on. Either buy clamp on FD, or see if problem solvers etc. makes a clamp to mimic a braze on mount.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he doesn't. Maybe he thinks you're just replacing the bottom bracket and keeping the cranks? Or maybe he thinks you're putting 105 5500 cranks on?

A completely different bottom bracket. The R8000 Ultegra one should work.
If you are seriously asking what you need, then what you need is to take it to a shop. You don't have the tools to do this.
EDIT: You need at least 3 tools you probably don't have JUST to take the old BB out.

The R7000 FD comes in 31.8 with an adapter for 28.6, which is what you want. OR you need a braze on and an adapter. I'd probably go for the former.

It was a little windy yesterday and we got most of it on the return trip which is where they wanted to push it, of course. A little tired today I wanted to take the mtb out to the dam and spin around without cars. It was supposed to be more windy today but it was not windy at all. I took a couple pics.
After a few miles on the street I ride across the top of the dam. Looking out across the basin where the lake used to be. I know the trails to get to the top of that little peak on the far right but I'm not going up there today.
After riding down and around below the dam I saw these guys swimming near the intake of the dam.

I wish I had known, they screw you with the evaluation of the trade-in. They only gave me 4k in equity despite that vehicle being in mint condition; PLUS the mileage was 11k under the limit because, you know, there was this little health scare in 2020 and the vehicle seldom went anywhere. I could have gotten a way better deal selling it myself. Live and learn.
