Bikes: Was Fuji and got my grails (Pro, Pro SR, Design Series, & Ti). Now I hunt 50's and older road bikes.

Gitane Mixte help needed

I wanted to build up a bike I felt comfortable locking up and settled on a purple Gitane mixte that I almost certainly overpaid for, but I am happy with what I got. That said, I am curious how the rear brake cable/housing is supposed to be routed. I'm assuming I need some sort of cable stop just before the smaller diameter hole in the lower (top tube?) bridge. Can anyone here provide some clear close-up photos of how the housing traditionally ends? Do you route the housing through the upper bridge too, because that seems like a somewhat weird angle, but doable.

I'd like to try a centerpull brake, if possible. If I can go 650B, that would be even better.

Thanks in advance

Other than figuring out the brakes, I just need to peruse Ebay for a 25mm seatpost.

I should have noted that the upper hole is slightly smaller than my smallest threaded adjuster, but I might be able to file it down just enough to fit and still have usable threads.

The lower one is far smaller.

yes, you are on the right page

there should be a housing stop at the forward laterals bridge

cable passes through both bridges

OEM brakes were MAFAC Racer

bicycle/frame model is Gran Sport DeLuxe

transfer set tells us latest year frame could be is 1973

one handy adjusting barrel for small openings is the one which came on many Simplex shift levers:

in this application it may be necessary to place a washer under it...

My French non-Gitane mixtes have a stepped ferrule for the cable stop on the bridge. Similar available on the Bay.

Congrats, BTW, a Grand Sport Deluxe mixte is a great find.

Thanks! Large mixtes seem hard to come across, let alone older ones. It really seemed to come down to either getting a larger Gitane, or going with a Soma Buena Vista. I ultimately could not resist the purple, which has become of of my favorite bike colors.

If you have a photo or a link to what I need, I would appreciate it. I'm struggling to find them, but maybe my keywords are poor.

I'm thinking a standard 6mm adjuster should fit into that lower bridge, If not you may need to look for an adjuster from an older model Raleigh which was only about 5mm on the outer threads. HTH, MH

frame size -

MICMO was unusual at this time in that they offered the Gitane mixte in a 60cm c-t-t size

Beech, if you search eBay for 'bike stepped ferrule' there's a dozen or so.

I used a stepped ferrule for this late sixties Mercier mixte:

I do wish it were larger and will keep an eye out for the 23.5" size, but this was sold to me as a 58cm. I assume this is actually a 22.5" that maybe measures just a tad larger.
