Show us vintage builds for kids
I haven’t posted in a while so hi everyone. This summer my 10yr old really got into riding after he got on a vintage mtb that I was making into a city cruiser for my wife. Now it’s his bike and I finished it recently and also picked up a sweet little (48cm) Nashbar with a mix of late-90s (?) Campy 9-speed.
I’m interested in seeing what other C&V dads/moms and kids are building.

My kids ride bikes I built, but neither are classic in the common view of this forum.
My 9yo has a Trek 650c road bike thats about 10 years old and a 20 year old Specialized HotRock mountain bike. The mountain bike is below- I think the only original things on it are the headset and seatpost. Its 1x9 11-34 with a 30t chainring which makes for easy climbing at the 24" wheel size.
My 13yo has a modern 26" tire Marin mountain bike that we built from the frame and a 1998 Raleigh R500 road bike where the only original things are the headset and seatpost. Its 2x9 with a mix of Sora, Tiagra, and 105. Its a 22 year old frame, so its definitely not new!

I built this 1993 Specialized RockHopper for my daughter.
When I bought it, it had the original paint and decals -- red with green letters. She hated the colors, so I let her pick a color and had it powder coated. The brake levers are from her old Toys-R-Us Kent, which weighed about twice what this one weighs.

My little old Flandria with 500A wheels that decorated the hearth of my bachelor pad for years; sun-faded paint from years of exposure before I got it, white tires from Mel Pinto, narrow alloy bars and stem from a friend's old Raleigh Competition, wingnuts and the original alloy rims, all the good stuff. I gave it to a buddy for his little nephew but the kid never got the bike.

Both look great, and very much like the kind of bikes I’ve been looking for. That Raleigh is cool. I feel like I was always running into tiny frames but when I really started looking they’ve been hard to find.

Such a cool ride. My kid is really into the dark grey of that Nashbar and he’s going to grow out of it quick so I’m expecting I’ll be at the powder coaters soon.
