The ride around White Rock Lake is pretty good for an urban ride. Otherwise, get outa town. I'm 5 minutes by bike from some really nice country roads with those flowers, longhorns, horses, llamas, goats, and other livestock.

Are Shimano SPD pedals harder to clip in to then SPD SL?
Currently that is what happening to me.

I use spd on mountain because you can actually walk in them if you need. it’s not uncommon in MTB to look at a feature and just say “F that”… and walk/climb past.
Might be a gravel consideration for you. But maybe not.
also, I think you can adjust play and tension. There’s a break in period where it’s harder.
the spd I use are like this:
https://www.jensonusa.com/Shimano-XTR-PD-M9120-SPD-Pedals
they are 2 sided but still can be used if you can’t clip in quick enough since there’s some “flat” real estate there as well. I doubt that’s gonna matter for gravel, though.

Not harder to clip in but harder to find the sweet spot until you get used to it. Like, if you're off a little it won't click. With road pedals once you get the toe end close you can stomp on it.

Wife bought be some with shoes with the check point. I put them on the bike yesterday and could not clip in. I only had like 10 mins to play with it but it was enough for me to take them back off for now.

I always loosen it as far as it will go. It's still secure and easier to get in and out of. If I ride SPD pedals in the wet they get sticky when they dry. I spray the whole pedal with WD-40.
You probably just need a little practice. They do feel quite different than road pedals.
And make sure the rubber from the sole isn't interfering with the cleat. This can happen, especially with shoes that you have to cut the sole for access to the holes.

Well that’s extremely frustrating. Woke up at 3 am for no reason. Alarm goes off and the first thing I do is check the radar and the weather forecast, everything looks good I get up and drink some caffeine. Master bedroom faces the woods so I cant see road conditions and our house is at the bottom of a hill so I can’t see road conditions from downstairs. Anyways, drink caffeine, get kitted up. This morning it’s 58 degrees, so I opted for arm warmers, leg warmer, and a gilet. Get the bike all set up. Quietly open the garage door manually and instantly hear rain. It’s a steady drizzle. So I decided i’ll wait it out, as I am standing there it starts coming down even heavier. So I grudgingly close the garage door quietly and call it quits. Nothing in the radar, nothing in the forecast. SMH. We have been stuck with low clouds for days, with spitting rain, this was the hardest yet. Todays schedule is packed so getting a ride in will be impossible.
Last night I threw an 80 mm stem on the 58 check point, lowered the stem 10mm, I still have 20 underneath it. Put smaller road bars on it, rewrapped the bars ( my best one yet) and put the superteams on it. Was looking forward to riding it today with road wheels.
I promised a friend of mine I would sell him my superteams for his CAAD. He’s getting a pretty good deal. 200 for the wheels with a brand new cassette and brand new GP5000 30 mm tires. This was all planned before I had the checkpoint, now I kind of wish I wasn’t selling. I would love to have a spare set of road wheels to throw on this tank just to ride it whenever. Realistically, Unless I go on a gravel specific ride during the day like I did a couple weeks ago, my gravel days are very limited with the sun taking longer to come up. I def don’t want to ride unknown gravel roads in pitch black darkness.

Good to know, will def do that. I’m going to keep road pedals on it for now, will put the SPD pedals on it when I am actually doing gravel riding. Mainly because I have garmin rally SPd SL pedals, and I feel naked without my power numbers. I blame whyfi.

I don’t follow baseball very closely like when I was a kid, but mrs datlas is a Phillies fan so I try to keep up.
I am aware of the recent changes like pitch clock and DH in the NL.
I was totally unaware of the “zombie runner” rule for extra innings.
I was listening to the game last night and when it went to the 10th inning, the lead off batter walked and there were runners on 1st and 2nd. I figured I had a brain fart, but when a mystery runner was mentioned again in the bottom of the 10th inning I knew something new was going on. Googled it and learned about it.
I am old fashioned so I personally do not agree with DH or pitch clock or zombie runners, but I accept these changes which I imagine make the game more interesting for the fans.

I'll be dipped! This is the first I have heard of it. Haven't watched a baseball game in years. Used to go to Dodger games with a drinking buddy in the 80s.
I imagine the rule was to try and get the game over with. The games can get stupid long. I wonder how much the pitch clock helped?

Today I rode around for a while and when I went by the disc golf course there was a guy with a handful of new discs to show the players. He was rattling off tech specs and telling them how they could help their game.

The pitch clock was long overdue and needed. Shortened the game by 25-30 minutes, and more importantly shortened the dead time where nothing happens.
