GT triple triangle frame thread
It is hard for me to believe we don't have a thread for this yet, as these frames are so adored. If I am wrong, please point me in the right direction. However, I did a pretty extensive search.
I just picked up this GT Force today. Maybe I will throw on a groupset that I have in stock, maybe I will keep it like it is. Not yet decided. Regardless, I will do a complete tear-down and rebuild. But sadly I am almost done with my end of year vacation, so I won't have time for a while.



Here is another build I did earlier this year. It is a GT Tempest frame size L, mirror polished with a properly chromed fork (had it done myself from the stock fork).






I look forward to seeing everyone else's Triple Triangles!

Nice GT's! Here is mine:
I did the drop bar and 700c conversion and ditched the u-brake with a long reach Nashbar unit. Running 3x9 for now, it's geared for nearly anything. Very, very stable. Not a lightweight though

OK I'll play, hope everyone isn't sick of seeing it yet, if you are let me know. There are 2 or 3 ahead of it to get finished but here's the base for my MTB drop bar conversion......

Those are cool road bikes, I'd definitely dig riding one. I'm assuming GT road bikes were pretty rare, because despite having sold GT mtbs at a shop I worked at in the 80's, I'd never heard of or seen a GT road bike until I got back into riding about a year ago and saw pics on forums.

Early 90s GT Outpost.
This used to be my do everything around town/grocery puller/weehoo puller bike.
It was a tank, being Tange plain gauge cromo, but that was also what made it great. Suntour XCT components worked great still.
I sold it off because it was too small, and have regretted it since because I haven't found something I like as much.

I really like the drop bar conversions you guys are doing. They look great!
I would regret it too. That looks like a great all-round bike. Real clean.
Yep! I thought it would be cool to have an official thread for these frames, as there wasn't yet one. And I really dug your Force, so was looking around online for one too. Didn't find one. But, by some crazy chance, a guy that I bought a bike from a couple weeks ago sent me a PM with pics of a, guess what, GT Force! Ha! It has all stock RSX 7 speed components. I don't know what to do with the bike yet. Still pondering. Say, yours is just about the same. What size headset is required for these frames? My quill stem is 22.2, but the outer headtube diameter measures something like 37mm. I need to take the fork off and possibly remove the headset to get good measurements before purchasing.

This is also my first bike with brifters, neither of them work, and I haven't quite figured out how they work. Wondering if I should attempt to disassemble/rebuild them myself, or pay that guy on eBay to do it.

As far as brifters go. They come with a type of thick grease from shimano that over time can dry out and get clogged up in there. What I did, when this happened to me, is take them off the bike, leave them for an hour or so in some really good automotive grease remover, then while they are still in this detergent, work the levers multitudes of times. The old gunky stuff should come easily out. Then you can dry them off real good and add your own grease. Worked for me.

Hellenic stays have been around since the 1920s and aren't new.
The Triple Triangle is what makes GT iconic. My GT Eightball is really a minimalistic work of art.

The examples I'm most familiar with are those produced by Hetchins. Hetchins is possibly best known for their unique ways of configuring frame tubes, such as their "vibrant", or curly, seat and chain stays.

Finished the Force build and got some good photos! All the parts were purchased used. Except for the small stuff. The wheels were a real deal. The guy that sold them had over-tightened the rear adjustment sleeve, so I guess he thought the wheels were crap. He ruined the cone and bearings on the non-drive side. The drive side were totally OK. So, I purchased a new cone and some ceramic bearings and swapped them out. They are smooth as butter now, and like new! The bar tape took some shopping around to find a red that matched with the candy-apple-red of the frame. Lizard Skins ended up being perfect. Anyhow. It is a beauty, even with the scratched up crank. The plan was to sell it, but like always, I now have my time and love invested so I don't know if that is possible!!

Being I rode so much BMX I have a soft spot for GT and have amlost pressed the button several times on a vintage road bike.I do have newer MTB, one of my only newer bikes because it is GT, even though new ones are sourced.

A few years ago I laid my eyes on the Triple T frame for the first time. It was a used and beat up 1995 Tempest. I fell in love with the design right away, and I knew the frame had so much potential. It is now completely rebuilt and my favorite mountain bike. Beats the hell out of the Cannondale Flash Carbon 1 that I had.

Battle scarred and tarnished 1994 GT Edge Aluminum. Hand built in Longmont CO --- this is a very early GT road bike
When i got interested in C&V bikes - my primary focus was to put my old race machines back together again --- a year later , this one still sits as pictured -- waiting for me to throw it on the stand and get to wrenching again
This frame was fast, light and stiff--- it has a lot of miles on it as its tarnished and abused exterior finish would suggest, -- but i think a couple of afternoons with some simichrome , my foam ball and a drill motor and i may be able to bring back some luster

Not mine --- but basically the way i am going with the re-build -- I have a nice looking tri color 8 speed group, Control Tech post and a Salsa stem for it in keeping with the eclectic style of the mid 90's on these MTB inspired framesets

Could anyone post a close up picture of the cable and housing routing of a triple triangle rear canti brake? I think I have mine set up wrong, which is adding a lot of friction and making the rear brake useless.

I just put together a pair of GTs from 1988. The Timberline was a fun build for a very tall friend of mine. Check out that black crackle paintjob. I wasn't sure if I was going to like the Outpost, but it's a really sturdy bicycle with a pretty neat seat cluster.
