I have thought about making a mount to put a light on the crossbar of my mtb fork. I'm a little afraid of failure though.

iirc, most automotive bumpers are ABS... If paint finish is a concern, ABS can be tricky to coat for good adhesion.

also, that mount setup reminds me of the blendr as that ecosystem can expand to a dual mount (top with bottom) for multiple purposes.

good luck w/ the shadows from the cables. haven't looked at my bikes lately but if the cables don't make shadows, I'd use a mount like that

I've tried the bike lights like the one shown by the designer and soon realized that having to mount a separate battery pack connected by a wire to be a PIA. The result is they haven't left the shelf in a couple of years. Instead I use a simple XML-T6 flashlight powered by a high quality 18650 Li-ion battery (NCR/Panasonic 3,400 mAh battery). Then you can use an inexpensive mount specifically designed for the flashlight. The cost is under $3 if ordered from China with a long shipping time or a pair of them from a US seller for $8, The advantage of the flashlight and that mount is that you can aim it precisely where you want the beam to go and focus the beam as well. The mounts I have been using last a couple of years and I have yet to have a flashlight come loose.
