I am sure there is some deep psychological reason why I take issue with the ******g censor/filter. Maybe it's an overly entitled freedom of expression thing?

I can tell you that there is a now defunct "social cycling" website which was in some ways a spinoff of BF/Addiction. You could use whatever language you wanted as long as it was not inflammatory, and it was like a breath of fresh air.

My woodworking forum is like that. It has other annoying idiosyncrasies, however. A mother hen bot that treats us all like five year olds.

I understand that the forum does not have full time proofreaders to keep out inflammatory posts, so I do accept the censor as part of the package. But that does not mean I have to like it.

e.g. you can't say **** sapiens?? That's who we are. It's all about context but the censor is a blunt instrument.

A sailing website that Moalpha and I know about is like that. You could even through out the inflammatory stuff with impunity. NSFW pics were the norm. Thin skinned need not apply.

I have polished a bit of the crankset spider with my heel on a bike or two, but the extent of wear on the chainstays on that carbon bike is nuts.

I've seen some and have a little on the crank/spyder, but I've never seen it on the chainstay like that. A friend tears up the inside of his right heel, but there's not a mark on his chainstay. Would have to be really duck like!

Trivia fact:

At one time it was fashionable for spurs to be cast in the shape of a lady's legs. They were called, believe it or nor, Gal Leg or lady leg spurs.

The guy that bought our boat from us lives in west Texas and has a collection of them. There is even a museum south of here that is devoted to them - The Texas Bucket List – Mitchell Spur Collection in Gatesville.

I toe out a lot and I wouldn't be able to use clipless pedals without pedal extenders. Even with the extenders my heel rubs the stay and the crank on the right side. Some bikes and some shoes are worse than others. My Cannondale CAAD5 had a polished spot near the derailleur but it didn't wear through. The shoes I used for years have a hole inside the heel and are badly frayed. The newer shoes are scuffed and damaged a little bit.

I had a K2 mountain bike for 10 years and it had wide rectangular stays. On that bike I polished both sides but mostly the right. With some mtb shoes I have had to grind down the heel for more clearance.

Sometime when riding I'll hear a click or thump and it takes a second to remember it's my shoe hitting the bike.

A lady I know wore a deep groove, maybe 2mm, in the right crankarm.

One wonders if his extra-low "Robbie/Cobb" position forces his knees out, which turns his heels in.

I have to set up my cleats asymmetrically. My left foot is fine set up straight, but my right foot has to be slightly pigeon-toed to keep my knee tracking straight up and down.

Mrs. GeneJockey is no longer fixated on Poughkeepsie. She talked again with the friend whose daughter went to Vassar, who said it was an okay place to got to college, but wasn't so enamored of it as a place to live. So now she's fixating on Buffalo. That's right - Buffalo. When I point out to her that the average winter snowfall in Buffalo is SEVEN FEET, she just waves it off. When I point out that it's probably a bad place for someone whose Mother suffered from Seasonal Affective Disorder, she says she got a full-spectrum light to take care of that. She was telling one of The Boys that her best friend from High School lives there, he asked, "Are you still in touch with her?"

"Well, not so much recently," she replied.

I think I need to let this burn out without too much opposition. I personally am feeling more comfortable with the idea of Pittsburgh. It does seem to be doing a lot better than a lot of Rust Belt cities, probably because it took the hit earlier, like in the 1980s, and has bounced back. The population dropped from 1970 to 1990, but has been largely stable with a very small decline since. Buffalo has been on a much steeper decline and it's not done yet.

I'm leaning towards Pittsburgh, but I'm also thinking Lancaster PA. Milder winters than Pittsburgh. Closer to The Ancestral Home, so it's more what I'm used to, geographically.

I really think Mrs. GJ has totally forgotten what winters Back East are like, especially the winters in Western New York. She is somewhat concerned about the whole "Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, with Alabama in between" aspect to Pennsylvania, but I think she over looks the extent to which New York is The City on the one hand and Upstate on the other. Maybe not so Alabama-ish as PA, though. I suspect the results of the coming election may swing her one way or the other on PA.
