Halloween is not such a big thing here in the UK, so this scary clown may be an early Halloween drawing or simply a representation of our current government, which has had a fortnight that could best be described as 'dumpster fire'.
And hold on there demon, you can look but don't touch, have you not heard of the commandment 'thou shall not covet thy neighbours Merckx'
And a modern take on another biblical reference can be found nearby....
I am always marvelling at human desire for self expression, in any large city the real estate for expression is can be limited but people find a way, one persons dumpster is another's canvas....
There's been lots in the news in recent years about declassified information on UAP's (unidentified aerial phenomena) as they are now called. They used to be called UFO's or flying saucers in my day, and as I cycle through the winding maze of east London streets out of the corner of my eye, what is that I see.....oh my bad, its not a flying saucer, further investigation reveals its another phenomenon I've not come across before, it seems this is an anarchy saucer.
I then head over westwards, passing through Holland Park, which you are not allowed to cycle in, so you have to walk your bike through here, or find a friendly statue to do it for you....
A few moments of zen in the Kyoto garden,,,
...before heading off again into the very un-zen hustle and bustle of Kensington High Street. I head southwards having another moment of quiet in Brompton Cemetery, one of the 'magnificent seven' cemeteries established in the 19th century to ease the overcrowding in existing parish burial grounds. And some of the tombs are are bigger than some modern London apartments...
Just before arriving home I find a new piece of art in Stockwell, that after my misidentified flying saucer incident earlier reminds me I need to get my middle aged eyes tested. I currently only have sunglasses and beer glasses, but if this chap is anything to go by it seems old age requires many different glasses for many different activities. Some of you may be there already, but this felt like a glimpse into my near future....

Two more things the UK does better and classier than we do: street art, and protesting. I actually wrote a bunch of other stuff after this, but strayed way beyond the bounds of this thread. Politics are so insidious these days...

75 degrees in late October! First ride in 22 days - crazy work stuff lately. Rode 55 miles up to Lake Forest.
A key connector trail has been closed all year because they need to replace the bridge over Deer Path Road. It’s a Crumbling former rail bridge that is now used for the path and for trucks that service the power lines. You can see the fence for the trail on the first bridge.
The project was supposed to wrap up late fall 2022, so I decided to check on the progress. The bridge is gone, leaving a vast canyon between the two halves of the trail. By the looks of this, it’s going to drag out another year. Rats.
On the brighter side, pretty much peak fall color now and we’re getting lots of red, yellow, and orange.

My wife used to be one of those teens at Lake Bluff beach (next town up for non locals). I showed her your pic and comment and she replied “ Not Lake Bluff, we’re nice folks there”. Maybe because they’re that much closer to Wisconsin. We were just there a couple weeks ago and got a pic of her old stomping grounds.

I rode to and from the tanning salon, taking some pics of the scene where I had (yet another) slow-speed accident while riding the Bianchi yesterday. That one was all my fault, a matter of unfamiliarity with the bike and road conditions conspiring against my lack of spatial awareness (I wasn't paying due attention), and I the bike and I walked away. Well, the bike rode away, a bit scarred, but I rectified that today. Anyway, today it was the Medici's turn, and guess what? Nothing happened. Nobody honked, nobody cut me off, or turned right into me, and I reached my destination, returned without being molested, rode around the neighborhood, then decided to cut the ride short at around 15 miles as my mom and I had plans in the afternoon. I think I finally broke the jinx!

On a whim yesterday I signed up to do a 62 mile gravel ride “over the mountain” in the Shenandoah Valley. Last night, fortunately I decided to switch out tires to something with a little tread and found a hole in the sidewall of one of my Strada Biancas. The new Vittoria Tirreno Zeros rode very nicely. It was a wonderful day with good riding weather. Just as much climbing over there but the downhills seemed to be longer and gentler. One stretch towards the end I had the Blue Ridge on my left and the Alleghenys/GW National Forest in the distance to my right - very nice. Also ran across an old friend who I last saw about 20 years ago.
BTW I might have been the only guy out there on rim brakes. I did see one other steel bike, a Gunnar with disc brakes.

Thanks Jim, ride started and finished in Raphine, just south of Staunton. Colors were just past peak and really pretty, I shoulda tweaked the photos a little to bring them out better.

It was still surprisingly warm in our area this weekend, so a short ride between other jobs was in order.
I'd just changed a few things on my Koga-Miyata, so I could use a test ride. 11-speed Athena brifters mated to a shortened 9-speed Shimano cassette, and new TRP Eurox carbon brakes.
Passing through the town of Korteraar:
We came across a group of paragliders, taking advantage of the calm weather and excellent thermals:

Had a nice ride today meeting up with a friend.
He on an early 80's Trek 610 and me on an early 80's Austro Daimler Puch Vent Noir.
The Vent Noir was a pleasure for 45 miles today.
