2023 PRE bike swap party. Chicago!

Hey guys, Like last year I am going to have a vintage bike party and show at my Garage. We had such a great time last year. This year it will be held on Saturday February 11th. I will probably limit it to 35 people. Last year we had about 16 show up and it was awesome.

Who: Bike forum Members and some other local enthusiasts.
What: Bike show and party at day before the Chicagoland bike swap at Kane County Fairgrounds. Food and bevies will be provided.
What else: Optional and preferred. Bring a bike to show. There will be room in the garage. Must supply your own method of display. Either kickstand or bike stand so its freestanding.
When: Feb 11th. times to be announced later
Where: At "John's Vintage Road Bike Garage" Naperville IL
Why: To get to know more Vintage bike geeks such as myself, see some excellent bikes, have a few drinks and enjoy each other's company.
How: Send me a private message with your real name, E-mail and phone number so I can keep in touch.
Also message me with questions.

Here is a video of last year's party. First 40 gets in! Hope to see you guys there!

John Haboush

Very kind of you. I'd be there if I was in the area. Alas, maybe it will be the inspiration to do something in the Denver area.

Great. go for it. Some folks travel for it because they want to get away in the winter months and nerd out on bikes.. The bike swap is 25 minutes away from the garage and its the next day so its another reason to come to town.

Is anyone coming who makes wood display stands?

I would love to come as long as the weather is OK.

I'm 1 for 2.

Send me a PM with your email and I can send a pdf template. You need 2 of each part and 2 wood screws. In the template, the top piece is 18" x 1.5" x 0.375" stock aluminum bar stock with a through hole (countersunk for the wood screw). The middle piece is scrap wood, width is dependent on tire width. Bottom piece is 0.5" plywood. Glue the 2 middle pieces to the inside of the 2 pieces of plywood. Slide in aluminum, screw into 2 middle pieces.

Well that look simple enough if you have a jigsaw. Could the “legs” be wood too? That might be easier for me to work with

Could be plywood. You will need to modify a bit. The slot is 0.375". I'd recommend 0.5" ply.

But those aluminum bits can be bought in that exact size from McMaster. The "fancy" rounded corner can be square.

Hey guys,
It appears that there is not a lot of interest. I'm going to open this up to a google group and some local clubs.

So if your interested jump on board now.

Thanks

I went last year and am planning on going again this year. John is a great host and has a great bike collection (rumor has it he's added a few more neat ones in the past year) in a neat space, and folks bring some interesting bikes to ogle. What could be better than chatting with fellow c&v geeks in the presence of lots of great bikes? Well worth the trip if you're not local (I'm a few hours away) -- and you could always combine it with the Chicago Bike Swap the next day. Here's part of John's collection as a teaser:

I don't know which is cooler -- your stand or that classic 1950s Cinelli. Major points awarded for both.
