Since when are new carbon vintage?
And agreed, wouldn't buy it since it doesn't look like it's a bike made for riding. It looks like it's made to be hung up on a wall in a museum.

In a culture where a frigging rare vintage auto can go for up to $20 million, you're implying $20k for something as unique as this Colnago might be excessive?

The $20 million collectible auto is still a functional product that you can use to take your kids to school or make a run for groceries. This particular Colnago bike does not look like something you'll ever see at the Saturday morning group ride. It is okay to be hung on a wall and admired, but I bet it makes for an horrible ride.

Until a couple of years ago, I owned a bike made for a trade show in '79 that, like this Colnago, had gold-plated parts and had never been ridden. I didn't ride it either. But it wasn't because I thought it wasn't functional. I considered riding it, but didn't because gold-plated parts don't wear well. The thin plating looks like hell after moderate use and is easy to polish off if you're not careful.

Beauty must truly be in the eye of the beholder. I remember when this bike came out, loved it then and love it now as a collector's item. Wouldn't buy one because I'm not really a collector but if I was... ok not at $22k but I would understand if someone did!

Looks aside, try a nice long test ride on a C59.... you might be able to see why some folks think they are really nice...
