Hello from south central Pennsylvania
Hello... from near Gettysburg, PA.
Have been lurking for a while and decided to introduce myself.
I was an avid cyclist until 2009 when, after a motorcycle accident, I lost my left leg. I used stationary bikes (and my own, on a trainer) during rehab but never got back on for real and eventually stopped "riding" altogether. Earlier this year, I decided I needed to get back in shape and pulled out my Novarra Randonee and set up my trainer. After six weeks or so, I committed myself to making this the year I went back out; at the end of April, I rode about 2 miles around my neighborhood... I was hooked .
I've been pacing myself, perhaps too slowly, to avoid injury and burn out. Last week, I did a 14 mile ride at an average pace of 12 mph... I'm hoping to go 16-17 miles on my long ride this week and ~20 next week (and trying to avoid making any excuses not to ). The heat is a bit of concern but I'm hydrating before, during, and after my rides -- as long as I stay at a comfortable pace, I should be fine.
In addition to the steel Novarra, I have an aluminum Iron Horse (which I used on my last century in 2008) and a FreedomCycle hand cycle (with all of about 10 miles on it).
I'm retired and moved up here from the metro DC area.

I do use a flashing red light on the back of my bike... probably should get something for the front, too, but haven't yet
