Vacation rides on beach cruisers - Retrospec brand

I'd forgotten how much fun beach cruisers are. We spent last week at Folly Beach just outside of Charleston and I really enjoyed tooling around on fat tire cruisers. A new brand I wasn't familiar with was Retrospec ... looking online they seem to be reasonably priced.

Hey!

Just saw this post, glad to read you all had a great getaway!

you are right on the money on “ simple fun bikes for vacation” riding. I have been getting into the cruiser scene myself around town and at N Topsail beach here in NC. The local surf shop rents out the Retrospect cruiser bikes and seems to do well. Never rode one as I use my Jamis Sand Jam vintage earth cruiser or my Brompton when I stay for a few days.

At some point in my life I have not biked for almost 10 years and I resumed biking after renting and riding a beach cruiser along a boardwalk.

3 speed transmission.

I like beach cruisers, but give me at
least a 3 speed transmission. It makes
them so much more fun to ride. Mine has
a 7 speed Shimano Nexus.

I bought a Retrospec Chatham 3 spd for this season and love it. I was riding road bikes for the last 17 years, and got to where my neck wouldn't let me raise my head up to see where I was going. I'm 73 years old, but didn't want to give up bikes, so I checked out beach cruisers and was glad I did.

Can't go as fast, and the bike is heavier than a road bike, but the feeling of being out there is the same. I ride about 4 days a week and my doctor says to keep it up.
