Thanks.

Truth be told I haven't ridden outside on the road (a bunch of outside trainer sessions in the dark on work trips) since early October.

It's not really too hard once you're used to it. It's just pretty much 90 minute sessions. Warm up, sixty minutes of work, and done. Granted the work portion is pretty hard to get there, but it sure is efficient, and I'm not riding around in the dark and cold. Not many cars in my basement either. Bonus is I get to stare at the lake, and this morning there was an eagle that kept swooping back and forth, round and round.

I raced on 1/1, and it's rained since. 4 days now with little work, 3 trainer days that just don't give me the tss. CTL down to 110 and weight up a bit. Looks like rain for the next week still, so I'm getting my money's worth on zwift and we'll see if the TT efforts pay off.

And his indoor work is on rollers not a trainer. IMO, riding rollers for some or a majority of the training for racing is a competitive advantage.

FYI, you better get your fill of tidbits because in 3 more posts, according to Gstein, he will self terminate from BF.

Just picked up my Inside Rides from FedEx. And given the forecast for this weekend - anywhere from 1 to 8 inches of snow and highs in the upper 20s - they will be getting plenty of use this weekend.

Tomorrow's forecast calls for temps in the upper 30s with wind chill in the upper 20s and 50% chance of rain. That's at sunrise, and it'll get colder from then on. Debating whether to HTFU, do the workout (5x2' @ Z6) on the trainer, or pull the covers up over my head and add bourbon to my morning coffee. Right now it's a toss-up.

If you're outside, overdress by a lot, the layers will keep the rain off your core. If it was me I'd ride outdoors if the workout was longer than like 2.5hrs, below that I'd ride inside. This is only because I hate riding long periods of time on the trainer more than I hate cold rain. As a practical type of thing doing the workout indoors makes more sense.

2hrs today, finally accepted reality and shifted my FTP to 230 (from 265) retroactively to Dec 1, so my ctl is now 44. not sure how much more duration i can do on the trainer at a time, as my saddle seems to have turned on me randomly. would like to be able to do 2.5-3 before doing more ftp re-building, but that's probably pretty arbitrary. it's tough to pick what to improve when you suck all-around!

The flip side of this is that no matter what you work on, it'll be a big improvement!

i'm jealous of you folks reporting temps in the 20s and 30s!

it's -31 here right now (no windchill) and was -25 during my workout this morning.

good weather for a race on saturday!

i'll never win the training competition that goes on in this thread, so i'll chip in with weather-stuff to make you all feel better about your situations.

Let's see: downhill skiing, xc skiing, hockey, climbing, MTBing, not to mention beautiful road riding...you have so many envy-inducing posts that a wee bit of chill in your air will generate no sympathy from me!

Boulder is in the zeros right now, with a foot of snow on the ground.

If true, BF will lose a bucketload of expertise and a good chunk of it's ability to cut through its own bullcrap. ;(

Spoke yesterday with my coach who lives in northern Utah. She said she's put her gym work on hold, since she's getting all the upper body work she needs shoveling snow. She went skiing and from the lift couldn't see the tracks she made on the way down because they had already filled in with fresh snow.

It won't be that bad. Unless you forgot to buy a loaf of bread and gallon of milk - cause then you're going to starve to death.

Really though, I don't understand why we rush out for bread and milk. I don't really consume that much of either.

I don't either, and milk isn't a good choice if the power goes out.

I'll pour one out for you.

If we get 1/4" down here, life will end. It's going to be interesting for me. I wasn't yet down here the last time there was "snow." We'll see if I do my 4hr endurance ride outside tomorrow, or do whatever indoor hell my coach gives me.

Yesterday was 3hrs Z2 with 3x8min FTP. We're going to do a lactate test in 4-5 weeks, and I'm pretty sure it's gone up 5-10% ^_^

Now I feel extra bad for not even riding this morning, just because it was 31F and sunny out.

Holy crap. It was +31F and that's about as cold as it gets here. I'm glad I went, but I couldn't find my ski gloves, so my hands were suffering in my midweight gloves.

Pseudo-openers, the type of thing where you're rest weekin' hard and don't want your legs to shut down. Also I moved my seat back a few days ago because my lower back felt like it was rolled instead of straight and got some legit AeroGains(tm) and comfort out of it, and I want to make sure that I can do my usual power in the position without issues.

another 2hrs on zwift today, 120TSS, the nice thing about the lower FTP is that my CTL is going up faster compared to using my last test as the benchmark. So I guess I have that going for me.

haha.... i'm ok with it.

to quote one of my friends (who lives in west yellowstone, where the air temp (none of this "feels like" stuff!) was -40F): "... maybe convinces a few folks that warmer places might be more to their liking."

now that you mention it, yesterday actually had nordic skiing, a trainer ride, downhill skiing, nordic practice (coaching), hockey practice (coaching)... and a few sets of weights. i was pretty cooked.

-35F on the thermometer this morning.... when i let the dog out.

it is supposed to warm up saturday night when we get a few feet of snow.

come for a visit sometime.
