Tern Kinetix Pro wheelset, user feedback?

hi, anyone here with real world usage and experience with the newer Tern Kinetix Pro X 406 wheelset with the bladed SAPIM spokes and nipples. How reliable--trueness, durability--are they?

So...

...no one here has used these things?

I managed to pick up a new pair at a very decent price ($335). On the fence about whether to keep or flip.

Thor, you sell these, don't you?

I haven't used them. Always thought the bang for buck ratio was too low. What ERD are these? Looks like 451mm. What do the individual wheels weigh sans QRs?

Sure, these days with the likes of Mialo, Litepro, etc. one can get a basic wheelset for a third of the cost of these. These are not about value.

These are 406, and weigh 491/657 grams sans QR.

I would look at the dahon pro wheelset also. It's very similar and by what little information I can find is lighter than any other 406 wheelset. I have been using them for a few months now and have zero issues. I am planning to buy another set just because I want black rims.

Btw, my Dahon Dash runs a front Dahon Pro. Good, superlight wheel.
Not sure what you mean by 11 speed ready, my Dahon Pros came on an 11 speed bike.

Still not sure what you are getting at. The hub on the pro rear is made for 11 speed, so I am not sure what you are trying to say?

Is it the wider 11 speed road hub or an 8/9/10/11 speed mountain hub?

I think it is this but with 16 holes (matches the other specs exactly):

what i mean by '11-speed ready' is that the hub cogset carrier is wide enough to accommodate an 11-speed ROAD cogset. If it has an MTB cogset, even an MTB 11-speed cogset, and it has no spacer, then it is not '11-speed ready'. The reason for this is that an 11-speed ROAD cogset is 1.8mm wider than a 8/9/10 ROAD cogset and a 8/9/10/11 MTB cogset.

No specs but you can just make out the american classic logo.

I don't think so. Thor will know for sure, but these wheelsets, including my front Dahon Kinetix Pro and Tern Kinetix Pro use their own hubs, not a third brand.

That ain't no American Classic hub, kid...

Those are different wheels though. Dahon Pros are made by WTB. Man bike parts are a confusing mess...

My bad. Mine is Dahon Kinetix Pro. We definitely don't have the same hubs.

Dahon Pro Wheels are not available in the US since years now. The old ones had an American Classic front hub at least, not sure about the rear.

So if you are in the US and you buy a new dahon you can't replace the wheels if you damage them?

That's a bit poor. Actually come to think of it if it wasn't for Amazon I wouldn't be able to buy them in Japan either.

most of the top line bikes from Dahon which are sold over here have 451 ... right ?
If you have an older bike from 10 years back with the old wheels, we will be able to find alternative wheels. However that question almost never showed up, must mean the old wheels were pretty stout.

So, Thor, any comments on the Tern Kinetix Pro, a product that you sell on your site?

Most of the higher end dahons are on the pro wheelset. Though looking at the dahon USA site there doesn't seem to be any high end bike offered in the USA, all very low spec. But my bike is an international model, I am sure it's sold there.

Oh and not sure what you mean about old wheels. I think you are confusing pros with kinetixs pros. Dahon pros didn't exist 10 years ago as far as I can tell.

BruceMetras might know because i recall reading a thread about repurposing 74mm front width Dahon Pros for a 100mm Moulton.

Going back in the time machine (2003 or so), in the US, Dahon offered paired spoke front wheels made by Rolf for the Speed Pro.. my stock 2005 Helios XX Anniversary bike came with paired spoke Rolfs front and rear.. following years for the Speed Pro, Helios SL and Jetstream XP used paired spoke Kinetix Pro wheels .. Pantour equipped Kinetix Pro rims had a wider braking surface to compensate for wheel movement. .. as far as I know, WTB paired spoke wheels weren't supplied on US bikes.. I turned down on my lathe a pair of Titanium adapter/spacers to mount a 74mm Rolf to my TSR-5 Moulton .. of course, they can now be purchased over the counter and would have saved me a ton of time..

One of the largest stock of Dahon rims that I have seen is from C.H. White..Lots of Kinetix Pro Rims
