I bought a Cannondale for the Campagnolo seatpost it had. It was one of those aero Chorus ones I had been looking for for ages.

Almost every bike I buy is because of 1 or 2 parts in the end, a Brooks will seal the deal almost every time, headsets too as they are often beat up or a bit hammered, a Campy Record, NR with good chrome and corners can and will often do it. The more chrome that looks bad but also looks to me like it will clean up well will do it. Campy SP binder bolt in good shape can do it, we know how many of them bite the dust. If the bike in question has a frame I want, everything else can be a bonus, especially if the bike is a bargain.

Lots of other scenarios as well and yes several bikes have been bought because they were cheap enough for the one cool part that I wanted.

But then we run into the issue of storing said frames in "alternative, temporary, portable storage units"...hee hee.

Bought a Fuji for the Sugino seatpost!

I bought a bright yellow $20 Fuji frame for the Sugino SP-KC seatpost needed on a Trek resto. Ended up being a 26.8mm, not usable on the Trek, so I built the Fuji up using parts from my stash.

$20 Frame

Well more than $20 bike

I once bought a bike to get the number of the girl selling it. Best 25 dollars I ever spent.

Somebody had a bike locally on Craigslist, for $75. It had a Wright's leather saddle, 30 years old if a day, an equal to Brooks in every way. I bought it, removed the saddle, and gave the rest to the local co op bike shop.
