What in your opinion is the better buy?

Looks like the Trek has a little but slacker head tube, allows for a little more stability at speed and through chunky stuff.
Although neither are 29" Which would probably be best for a hard tail, the larger tires do help with smoothing out the trails, down side is they aren't quite as playful.
Would also look at the gently used market & see if you can find a better deal on something like a Kona Honzo or Santa Cruz Chameleon. From a depreciation standpoint both of those tend to keep their values quite well year over year.
a Canyon Stoic 4 might also fit the bill

The Trek seems like a much better entry level bike not really a big Trek fan but looking at the specs and the bike overall it looks better : )
If you could swing it https://www.specialized.com/us/en/ch...=291528-184105. SLX and nicer brakes than both and I think one of the nicer alloy frames in the industry.
