Unusual Suntour DT shifters

Not on velobase and I have never seen them before. Very cool. Then I figured out that it might have been one of the early VX/7 models without the black rubber covers. Bingo. Beautiful casting.

The Grandis it is on is a lovely bike in Italy...

Very cool - I love the 8s along the edge. Crazy to think they were covered in rubber!

Are those eights, or a stylized bike chain?

I think just a design...not sure what 8 would signify. Maybe chain links. It’s just pretty cool.

One of those levers, just the lever and nothing else, was on eBay a few years ago and because it was interesting and I had never seen one I bought it.

Its because those little rubber finger mats last forever I guess.

Actually, I have been good about not collecting things I do not need, but I made an exception for one of these.

It could be an "8." Suntour has "8.8.8." stamped in the early Perfect freewheels.

Just which one I do not remember but in one of the Asian languages the pronunciation sound of the number eight sounds the same as the word meaning " luck ".

I’ve got a set on a Raleigh and one loose one as a key fob.

The rubber also came in white.

Unusual Suntour DT shifters

Anyone care to guess how many of these "Unusual Suntour DT shifters" SunTour made? 10s of thousands? 6 digits? (No fair - I came on to this thread late so I know those rare shifters are just hanging out hiding in those black sleeves.)

Big fan of SunTour here. Not sure if I ever had those shifters though. I think the Power Ratchets were my introduction. The Fuji Pro I raced had them also. Mooney started with them and reverted back for its graven days. My TiCycles has the top mounted Suberbe DTs.

Good suggestion! I had never seen one like it, was impressed by its looks, got just the lever for small money and figured I would hang on the wall, but yeah, it could serve as a key fob and I will keep that in mind, thank you.

Yeah. I had been so entranced with the Campy type copy I of the embossed and engraved areas that I completely did not think of the black covers until I had posted the thread.

Then I went to Velobase and it hit me.
