biking to work in northern upper 45th paralell near Canadian border, Its only just summer months that there is enough natural light when riding to work in early mornings. In fall and winters you need lights and batteries both in the morning and in the afternoon rides when it gets dark early, 4:30 PM somedays.

None of course, but I did live with a guy a few months ago who had a $10k mountain bike hanging in the garage for as long as he lived there because the electronic shifting had a dead battery

Eight; three AAAs in each of the two headlights and two more in the taillight. This is the same for all four bikes that I ride regularly (each with its own set of lights.)

IN the bike, none.
ON the bike, 3: front light, rear light, computer. During the dark months of the year, I may add another front light.
Another one on me - phone.

I have two, they're button batteries, one for the computer and one for the sending unit.

I didn't include the rechargeable batteries in my headlight and tail lights.

None - ‘in the bike’. Do we count the battery in the ‘phone to call for the ‘taxi ride of shame’?

should have read that more carefully!

I should have read the post first.
I currently have no batteries in my bike.... but on it I usually have 5 (Garmin, headlight and tailight, batteries for extra front and rear lights.) Road bike and commuting bike run the same number of lights set up.

1 always for a rear light (one with a small LED for battery status helps!)

1 more for a headlight if it's winter or late night mountain biking

And I always have my cellphone on me or on a clunky phone bar mount.

I never liked the idea of needing to charge my shifters or other. Even if it is only once every few months

In the 80s and 90s it was zero - but disagree with the statement by the OP, even if it is in jest, that electrons are for losers. One can be an old fashioned purist or a modern battery powered type and neither are losers - just different strokes.

Six
One battery I phone
One battery backup in display
Four drive batteries in parallel total of 2,540 Watt hours.
Everything else is driven from the bike batteries.

Sorry, I misread the question. I have zero batteries “in” my bike. On my bike is another thing.

I usually have my iPhone 7 running Strava in a saddle bag and use my Apple watch, so two.
If I ride in low-light, not often, I'll mount front and rear lights, so four.
I'm contemplating getting an AirTag to stick on it somewhere, though.

No motorcycle. Just a big ass bicycle with a big gas tank for remote off road touring. I need a bigger bicycle.
