used bike purchase?
I am looking at a 2003 aluminum specialized s-works road bike with dura-ace components. The owner says the bike has 15 to 25000 miles on it. It looks to be in excellent shape. He is asking $750 for it. Is the bike worth it and should anyone buy an aluminum road bike that is this old? Thank you

Without seeing the bike it is tough to tell. Probably that price might be a bit high but it does have potentially decent parts and a decent frame so it can be tricky. Do you know if the chain is worn or is there rust or fraying on cables or cracks in tires... things like that can really devalue a bike unless it is something really special and rare and while S-Works stuff is nice it is not particularly rare and aluminum is not all that special.
If you do end up with the bike take off any bar tape immediately and trash it and inspect the bars for any corrosion or damage and replace the bars as needed and if not just wrap with new tape but since you are under there you might also want to add new cables and housing if it hasn't been done in a while or is in bad shape. Bar Tape soaks up sweat which is quite corrosive and while someone's old tape is gross because of that sweat soak it really isn't the reason it is safety first and foremost as you don't know what is hiding underneath.
