Here's a Corsa (not Extra) I restored a decade ago:
It was my first full restoration, with new paint by Allan Wanta. Looking back on it, I went a little too "matchy-matchy" with the red tires. But still, I think it holds up.

The 7-eleven Merckx is right there for best looking 80s bike. For total kit, my vote is for La Vie Clare. The Look Reynolds 753 Equipe in pearl white is also one nice looking bike!

IMHO a 'good' bike is one that wins races. And these did (TI Raleigh team). Maybe more than any other. Built by Jan le Grand in Raleigh's Ilkeston SBDU shop, between '74 and '84.
The lack of chrome was a 753 thing, I believe. Atrocious graphics? I don't think they slowed down the bike a lot.

The question was about 'looking good', so it all depends on your definition of 'good', I suppose.
IMHO a 'good' bike is one that wins races. And these did (TI Raleigh team). Maybe more than any other. Built by Jan le Grand in Raleigh's Ilkeston SBDU shop, between '74 and '84.

My only issue with it is the lack of chromed fork and stays. To me, that's the epitome of high end 80's bike looks.

A bit-character in the movie "Thelma and Louise" made that jersey iconic (at least for me). T&L get pulled over, but get the drop on the cop. They put him in the trunk of his cruiser, using his gun to shoot out the car's radio and add some ventilation holes in the trunk lid for good measure. After they've been gone for some time, a cyclist with dreads, smoking a blunt, and wearing the same Cinelli jersey comes rolling up to the police car. He hears the officer asking for help, so he blows a load of smoke from his blunt into one of the bullet holes. Classic

Think about how hard it is to design bike graphics uniquely and well.
The various late 80's, early 90's EM color schemes are way up there with "let's see how this looks."
They had a consistent character and underlying similarity that just sort of went together.
The Colnagos of the same time were more over the top, and love 'em or hate 'em, they delivered a reaction upon eyes-on.
This '88 model model was hard to beat for living in box outside the box. 1987-1989, "traditional" was the exception.
