First time reproofing

New to reproofing :-o

Threw my Endura rain jacket in the washing machine. I used the right cleaner & re-proofer product, followed instructions.
My jacket was soaking wet when it came out of the washing machine. Left it to dry indoors on a drying rack. (Because the label indicated NOT to use in the dryer machine.)
Result: not yet waterproof.

What is it that I’m doing wrong? E.g. do I need to iron it gently with a towel in between (= apply heat)? Most videos show the use of a dryer, but the label forbids it.

You're supposed to wash rain jackets?

I'm talking about re-proofing a rain jacket.

Bikewolf how old is the jacket? how dirty is the jacket? I don't wash my rain coats often. Maybe once or twice in the years i have owned them. I don't think the DWR i used added much to my coat but I do stay dry.

Sometimes it takes more than one attempt, or a combination of products.

I use Nikwax (I ride motorcycles as well), and use a combination of one product that goes in the wash with the jacket, and another spray/wipe on after it's out and dried.

Cleaning products:
https://www.nikwax.com/en-us/product...r/cleaning.php

Waterproofing products:
https://www.nikwax.com/en-us/product...erproofing.php

I've had pretty good luck with these (choose the appropriate type for the material you have), but there have been a couple times that took more than one treatment of the waterproofing, especially around the seams.

It's something that's best done every year or so and works better on thicker fabrics.
They always come out soaking wet. Let it dry and maybe use a very cool iron on it if the label allows it.

If it's a few years old and dirty it probably won't do all that much.

Thank you for all your comments.

After using the brand’s re-proofer product, I let my rain clothing dry at room temperature. Thought that’d do the trick. But as I kinda guessed you really need to add warmth into the mix.
So, I tried the iron-towel method. I did not work. Finally, I tried again once more by using the dryer (special outdoor program setting).
Both methods showed some improvement. But no enough... (so after 3x re-proofing!)

The jacket and pants are about 3 years. They have always been well cared for: never got all that dirty, if some dirty spots present I cleaned carefully with a bit moist cloth, I never put the stuff in the washing machine or dryer before (because it was never so dirty).

Gonna look for another brand perhaps. Phfff...

I believe there’s definitely a limit to how long you can wear this stuff no matter how much you care for it. However, I thought it’d last much longer :.-(

I always used the spray stuff to satisfactory results on my snowboard gear, at start of season and after a wash. The spray stuff has a solvent, I suspect it "dries" greasy and wears off faster than the machine stuff but the jacket has a liner.
