Everything's connected; if one muscle/group is not doing it's job adequately, other muscles may have to work even harder to pick up the slack. For example, back muscles having to take the extra burden of stabilizing the hips and spine if the core muscles aren't engaged and contributing.

For me personally, my biggest limiter on longer rides has always been back pain. I'm finding that when I do regular core work, it helps quite a bit (unfortunately I'm not always good about remembering to do it). I'm not talking crunches (which IMHO are of very little use to athletes), but things like ab rollouts, planks, side-planks, ab vacuums, etc.

so you build all those big core muscles and then you ride all the time but if you don't work the extra big core muscles they atrophy from disuse?

good to hear. me too! fever broke yesterday and I was able to eat dinner. Feel brand new today so far. Also had minimal caffeine the past 2 days, just enough to combine with acetaminophen to keep headaches away and this morning's coffee seems potent.

I am at work and plan to ride today and tomorrow before heading to PHX. Of course it's going to rain now!

Grab bag day, 1x20 Z4 and then some sprints. I went down a bit of a rabbit hole with the sprints, focusing on mechanical minutiae, and when I got home and looked at the file I was surprised to see I did 20 of them.

my first race is traditionally 1/1 but at this point I don't think I can do it without being too embarrassed about my tan.

Take it easy. Talk to your doctor. Don't get a second concussion (seriously).

+1 Maybe consider riding indoors for a few more days mikey to avoid even the small possibility of a re-injury.

i'm really feeling good today, i know very little about concussions, but I don't think it was a very severe one. the doc didn't give me a timeline on when to start riding again and statistically i've done thousands of rides perfectly safe. plus, i raced motocross for years so my brain is pretty scrambled as is.

My girlfriend's roommate got a concussion (While riding his hybrid down the bike path) and he has been on disability for several months now. Glad to hear your healing up faster than him Mikey.

On a training note: I have been doing significantly less volume than I am used to. We will see if this helps me up the Z4 a tiny bit more this coming season. But it makes me sad to be doing less volume. I like volume

My urge to answer that question with blue humor is strong. But I suspect would not be appreciated in mixed company

Edit: She actually has 2 male room mates.

If it's any consolation, I was once roommates with a female friend and lost any attraction to her once I saw how disgusting she was!

I'm 35 so my situation was the 90s. In the 80s or earlier I think you had to have sex with your female roommates. Why are you more mad about it than dz who handled it perfectly? Moodiness is a concussion symptom.

and I'm just ****ing with you. don't flip out.

Before that you had to pretend to be gay, sort of, without actually saying the word or anything related to it. Otherwise Mr. Roper would kick you out? Or something? And your blonde roommate (the "pretty one") would just completely change identity between seasons sometimes, like some kind of proto-David Lynch statement. It was a madcap, wacky time.

The real question is, does dz's gf permit her ankles to be uncovered around him? If so, how uncouth.
