72/3 motobecane le champion
What’s it worth? Mostly original, with a couple period correct upgrades. Still have the original DT shifters.
not original:
record hubs laced to fiamme rims
Campy seat post
rustines hoods
campy brake pad holders with kool stop pads
campy pedals
campy top tube cable clips
winner pro freewheel

We just had a later model Le Champion in this forum where all determined $900 was too high and the OP was thinking less than $600. In reality, that one was probably closer to $500 and this one is is probably $600-$700. As usual, I could be off by 100%

Beautiful bike. Someone from the DC area who really wants this bike might be willing to make the drive. The size of the market matters in a local sale. $600 for a local sale but you certainly could ask for $700 to start with and see what happens. I've seen le champions at $800 plus sit for a long time.

I have this one at about $750, maybe $800 on Craigslist in the big city US, cleaned, serviced, and throughly polished. As-is I would buy at about $500 maybe, I put an offer on a neighbors' 74' Grand Record of $450 it was cleaner, but had OEM Weinman sidepull brakes instead of the Universal and had the alloy blade rail Brooks Professional saddle.
A newer silver Le Champion bare frame sold at the local for $175, I bought it but after further review it had a couple of issues, a dent near the bottle boss, and front end issue that wasn't apparent at the time of purchase. The front end was addressable, and was, but the dent was in line with the boss could not be rolled bugged me to much after aligning the front.
Thanks for posting, viva la France!

That is a beautiful bike, in a popular size. The most eye-catching color scheme that Motobecane came up with (in my opinion).
I agree with the $600- $700 price range. A buyer looking for that particular bike should be happy with a deal in that range… There is a similar LeChampion being offered on the big auction site for $1200 (now $900) currently; that one may sit a while at that price.
As a comparison, This was sold several weeks ago in the SF Bay Area for $400 with an extra original wheel set. I thought that was quite good deal for a Le Champion.

26.8 seatpost! Light gauge tubing there! +++
Hot Rodded brakes... good solution.
bike really needs a drive train clean, do that and the value will rise.
too bad on the dying chrome plated spokes... great tires...
But Dirty...
Pig Pen own this one?
$750-800

I don’t remember a Le Champion up for sale in my city. I own a Grand Jubile and a Grand Record and both are great bikes. I’m sure this one is even better with its pedigree.
