Finding a year of a vintage bicycle?

Hi I am new to the bicycle collecting. I picked up some vintage bikes and trying to figure out the years they were made. Is there any easy way of doing this. Thank you, mark

When you have ten posts, you will be able to post pictures, and that's the most effective way to get assistance from the aficionados here. Always take drive side pics, and details of the joints between tubes (lugs or lack of) help. Generally, if there are no brazed-on cable guides or downtube shifter bosses (mounts), then it's roughly 70's or earlier. The number of cogs on the freewheel or cassette is also a clue -- fewer means earlier in most cases. If you can offer any maker or model names, that could help, but otherwise, it's best to wait until you can post photos to ask, "What is this?"

Easiest way to get very close is to look up component date codes on the vintage trek site. Of course this only works if the parts on the bike are original.

Exact year has no bearing on value. Many bike brands never made a single bike. Even the ones that did make bikes often outsourced some of their production. Do are my three Schwinns that were made by Panasonic, Panasonic’s or Schwinns.

Date of Manufacture of Bicycle Components can be used to date a bike: component dating
